NIN calling it quits?

I've got a number of NIN albums, and after listening to much of it they should be renamed NEN, for never ending noise. Most of it sounds like a bunch of spastic crap with anything and everything they could find that makes noise plugged into amplifiers and cranked up.

I'm sure that sounds offensive to the NIN lovers, but this just wasn't going to work for me as much as I was open to it.

Not really offensive so much as nonsensical (and highly inaccurate)

What albums didja listen to?

That's how I felt the first time I listened to downward spiral (which was the first one I listened to...)

I think his live stuff is infinitely more accessible (and all that could have been, beside you in time, LITS)

I cycled thru randomly these albums:
The Downward Spiral
The Fragile
Live - And All That Could Have Been
Still
Year Zero

(atleast I think it was random and not continuous...)

Out of these, maybe you can give me some rec's, something that's on the more coherent side to the new listener that I might be able to get into more.

The Slip/With Teeth if you like more straightforward rock

Slip is edgy rock meets electronica (free DL from his site)

You didn't like and all that could have been? One of my favorites...

I'd DL this file (live @Victoria 12.05.08)
http://thepiratebay.org/torren...s_Over_Victoria_(FLAC)
--> To Mods, NIN released all this shit

Some of my favorite tracks in no particular order (note that the live versions of most of these tracks pwn the studio version x infinity)
big come down (live version), the frail -> the wretched, sin, wish, letting you, head down, the warning, ghosts 19, terrible lie, ghosts 31, echoplex, reptile, the good soldier

some of his other hits..
head like a hole, closer, hand that feeds, starfuckers

I made a similar thread only 10 months ago :Q

If you have only ever hear Been Caught Stealin' and Jane Says, you have never really heard Jane's.

The Slip is NOT bad btw for those of you who didn't bother with it.

This is why it's sad to see NIN go. Look at the date on that video.. their web guy HD films this track and has enough time to edit it and have someone do a quality audio mix in a complete package in 3 days. Great performance of Wish here, too bad the new Dillinger singer isn't that great. It's great how they manage to capture the intensity of a NIN show.

Fuck I love NIN. It's really one of those bands where the songs just absolutely never get old to me. And one of the very few bands I'd actually prefer to listen to the live versions of almost every song any day of the week.

EVERY song

I can't think of a single studio song that's better than the live version

Gotta agree. They have such a love for improvisation. I love Finck's long ass guitar solos, especially on AATCHB.

TOTALLY agree.. the AATCHB DTS dvd was so amazing, if DVDs could wear out on a track, mine would have to be completely gone from watching this over and over.

 NIN

I'm at <5 plays on my AATCHB dvd...

the cd, however, I listen to at least twice a week haha.

I wear out the LITS version of "the big come down". Best goddamn 5 minutes of my concert going life right there.

Yeah but they cut out La Mer on the CD (and one other I'm not thinking of right now), that always ticked me off. Guess they had to cut stuff to "make space" but damn!
