This guy bought an OEM Athlon CPU and didn't use it until two months down the road because he was waiting for his motherboard and heat sink to come from another vendor.
He claimed it was dead. I told him that it was past the warranty period for OEM CPUs, but I'd do the exchange anyway due to the circumstance if the CPU was not damaged and still had the warranty sticker on it.
I received it and it had a chip in two of the four corners of the die so, needless to say, I didn't do the RMA and emailed the guy back. In warranty period or not, I'm not going to replace a CPU damaged by a customer.
He said that I agreed to exchange the chip despite being out of warranty and that was it. I told him that I didn't understand why he would expect a company to warranty an out of warranty CPU that had been damaged by the improper installation of a heat sink not bought from us.
Needless to say he went ballistic with an all caps email saying he was going to tell the BBB and AMD and my next of kin that I'm a horrible, horrible person...
What a crack head.
If someone sees this person on Anandtech, smack him upside the head for me. :|
