That aside, I think I see where you're coming from, but then from the number of D40s I've seen around, I don't think it did Nikon ANY harm having it out there. It's an extremely competent little performer if you've ever used one, and it's allowed Nikon to chase the real 'intro to DSLR crowd', while having the D40X to catch those who wanted the 10mp sensor, at a suitable premium of course
