This is an excellent camera.. I bought one when it was $180 a few months ago, and since then the price has steadily declined. Secure digital memory can be found for $33 after $20 rebate for Dane-Elec 512mb at www.zipzoomfly.com, and Amazon has batteries and the leather case decently priced.

Be farwarned, butterflyphoto may call you and try to sell you extra stuff (additional secure digital card, case, spare batteries, etc) but they're easy to say no to:)

I got the same $100 rebate, and it came in about 4 weeks without any problems. The camera is also extremely TINY, it fits in my pocket (a little too wide to go unnoticed, but it fits nonetheless, just makes you look like you're happy to see someone)

what they do is send you an email to tell you to call them concerning your order.....it'll make you think there's somethiing wrong with your order, perhaps credit card error or delay in shipping, etc...but when you call them they try to sell you something...

I had bought 5 cameras from Butterflyphoto.com and I never had that kind of bait-n-switch experience. Did you buy it from other stores? Please double check.

Got this camera for around $180. Great camera! Later got the panasonic fast memory card from fry's.
The 480X640x30FPS is a unique mode and hard to find, but i'm having a small delay between sound and image when taking a movie (all reolutions). That said, it;s a GREAT CAMERA!

i believe there was a firmware upgrade to try to solve that issue. another thing to note is that the SD card speed plays a role in this as well. the faster the card, the less of a problem. that said, 640x480 kiks ass for this little cam

They didn't do that, but they did call me to try to sell me extra stuff. Eihter way, it's still an excellent deal, and taking a phone call from them is a lot easier than what most people go through on here to get a few pennies off:)

stupid question, but how would I go about using this rebate.

I looked at the rebate form: says that it expires 12/31

but then it says have it postmarked no later than 1/31/05.

does this just mean that I need to have an invoice before the 12/31?

that's correct. You just need to place your order before 12/31. Next mail the rebate to the address after you receive the camera (before 1/31/2005). Hope this help.

Can anyone tell me how to find out how "fast" the SD card is? All I ever see is how many MB it is??

1EZduzit. Do u mean the SD card comes w/ the camera? If that's the answer, you might find it just a regular SD card and it's only 16MB. You definitely need a bigger memory card. You can find a lexar 1GB 32X SD card for around $50 AR today. Buy.com has a 512MB kingston SD memory for only $29.99 after $15 rebate right now. link. No mention of speed, but I guess it's a 32X. Hope this help. ;)

Where can you get 1 GB high speed SD for ~$50? I've been looking off and on for the past couple of weeks, and haven't seen anything below 60 AR for 1 GB.

Rebate extended until March 31st. Mentions Nikon authorized resellers only, anybody had trouble with their rebates/butterfly photo?

I purchased a Nikon 8700 through Butterfly in August and rec'd my Nikon rebate without any problems other than the 8 weeks delay Nikon waited to send out the check.

BTW, when I bought the 8700, I placed the order by phone. They asked me if I needed any memory or accessories. When I said no, we moved on. No pressure at all. In fact, it is a two way street. Yeah, it is a revenue opportunity for them but some people actually need the extras and it is a convenient time to order as long as the price is competitive. One other positive, they upgraded the shipping on my camera at no additional charge and beat the delivery date I needed. Can't speak for others, but I was treated fairly and would consider doing business with them again.

Just got the camera today... and man is it sweet. I though my Fuji Finepix A201 Camera was small... but this thing is micro! The camera also functions as a video recorder (with sound) and actually produces some pretty decent clips! The camera can also connect directly to your TV.
Here are some deals on accessories:
Amazon.com has some decent deals on camera cases (I picked up the case for the Canon A80 - PSC-60 coz it was the cheapest).
Onsale.com 512 MB SD Card for $26 AR (was $25 AR yesterday)
Ebay has batteries for $10 shipped

This camera is way too high-end for just taking snaps for ebay unless they are like figurines or something that needs attention to details.

Hmm they called to tell me there was only a 16mb card coming with the camera. Then asked if I wanted to buy any upgrades. I said no, I only want the retail package (which is the truth, I am giving this as a gift) and no further pressure from them.
So they are more pushy than the ordinary internet retailer but it still seems reasonable considering the price of the camera.
To their credit, they shipped it the same day.

Ordered this Camera on Friday from DigitalFotoClub.com and got it on Tuesday.
This camera is wicked. Everything about it is small. The pictures are excellent. Sharp with accurate colors.
It has 15 different shooting modes (like backlit, landscape, night landscape, sports, etc.) + auto + manual. WOW.
What a deal!

I just got in on one. Looks good thanks for the deal. BTW, my Sony Cybershot P52 sucked balls and has broken numerous times so far. I finally got sick of cracking it open and repairing it.

If you use the camera at night, use the scene modes and keep the camera STILL against the face/nose for steadiness!

Was about to buy a Canon A400, but this looks to be a much nicer camera for even less money. Thanks for posting!
