Got one of these about a year ago ($50 AR at BB) but replaced it with a Samsung Techno Yepp b/c of the limited space and the cost/availability of MMC cards. Its a good player though, great for the gym, but capacity/interchangeability is lacking for more heavy duty listening experiences.

Phillips makes essentially the same unit nowadays for Nike, and I believe it costs at least 2x as much, so I'm thinking its a good deal. These things are sleek and sturdy, so I'm not quite sure what they needed to refurbish on them. They don't have any moving parts, so I think its a pretty safe bet. There's also a firmware update somewhere that gives the remote the ability to display remaining battery life.

The remote feature on this thing is pretty cool too. It doesn't come with the belt clip and the arm strap that the new ones do. As far as I can see it looks brand new. I had an extra 64MB MMC so I upgraded to 96MB. Windows Media 9 works well with it, I like it more than their software. Also, you need the new firmware, 1.62 to get your MMC card recognized. The only thing that I don't like about this is how slow it is to transfer from your HD to the MMC card (you have to fill the internal memory first and then you can choose to copy to the external memory). But I absolutely love it so far, can't beat the price for this MP3 player.

I have one of these, it doesn't work anymore. I can put the mp3s on it but wheni try to play them there's no sound. The remote says no tracks found. It's out of warranty too, POS. paid around $50 when BB had it after rebate.

I bought this December of 2001 when FRY's had it for $30.00 after mail in rebate. I also bought a 64MB MMC card. I have dropped this thing many times the plastic casing is held together by contact cement in some areas and super glue in other areas. The thing just keeps playing. I use 1800mh rechargeable AA batteries and they last a couple days of two hour workouts. The headphones that come with it suck, but easily replaced by better ones. I use the Sony sport headphones and they work great. I am surprised you can't get it cheaper, but it is still a good deal for a great little player. Oh, by the way, Windows Media Player works for copying to and from the PSA through the USB cable.

I have this player too from Fry's...but I'm giving it up to my GF, since she makes use of it more than me. I upgraded to 96MB too and it works great.

I got one of these back form a Hot Deal in the winter of 2001. It made a loud screeching sound (audible in the headset) and quit working after about a week of use. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I sent it back under warranty and they sent me the 64MB version in return. Needles to say, I was very happy. That player has been working fine for over a year now (3 times a week at the gym).

I like the player a lot but the headset is junk -- think about a replacement for it.

Maybe someone who gets in on this deal will get my (refurb'ed) old one. :)

It may be something in the circuitry that needed to be refurb'ed.

I got one of these about a year ago and it has since stopped working. I only used it about 3 x's a week if that for the gym. Not a good suggestion for the gym. If you do, watch out to not get ANY water in it or sweat. That is what ruined mine and the MMC cards are not worth it. I found it to be a waste of money.

Can some that has this unit tell me if it has in-track resume? i.e. does it resume at the beginning of the track or the spot in the track where you left off?

luckily my GF didn't care that it wasn't new...just as long as it was an MP3 player and smaller than her CD player that she lugged at the gym. :p

If you"pause" the playback, it will resume from the exact point you stopped it. However, if you "stop" the playback, it will resume at the begining of the song that was playing when you "stopped" it.
