Nike has in the works a shoe that can be maintained like a car. The concept is pretty cool. Basically, it's a shoe that will allow the wearer to adjust the width, height, girth, etc. The shoe will have replacable components just like a car. Now, why didn't I think of that? Sounds like a cool concept to me. Imagine "upgrading" your shoes instead of buying a new one.

plastic, foam, and cloth don't weigh very much. just because it's modeled after a car doesn't mean that the shoe will be made of steel.

It's definitely a cool concept. They have a method for making such a thing. I guess if demand is high then prices should go down. They didn't mention any based prices. But they did mention the ability to customize certain components. The new shoe design was mainly intended for athletes, especially runners. Since everything in the shoe is glued, it is hard if not a hassle for a part to get replace. Most will just throw it away and get a new pair.

Hmm.. I can see it now. Nike's new customizable show with optional rollerblad kit, ski kit, snowboarding kit, shox kit, led kit, etc. Add stickers to make your shoes run faster.

There will be a spring mechanism involved. I don't know too much details, yet.

I thought you were going to say they had actually made a decent driver so Tiger would use it. ;)

well, unless the upgradeable components are bolted into the shoe, I think they will probably just break apart while the wearer is running in them............

Apparently they've been doing this for non-sneakers for YEARRRS

Except the sizing thing. But I can't imagine it'd be great ...

Would you go with the Lebron James insoles for $125 or the Fiona Mcdonald insoles for $2.95.
