So, I've been living under a rock and just recently really discovered this band. I'm hooked. Rarely do I find a band that I enjoy every song that I listen to.

I hope the new singer can live up to Tarja's standards. They're going to be here in Portland in November.. I'm kinda waiting for the new singer announcement/new single release on the 30th to see whether I want to buy tickets or not.

I guess the genere is something like "Symphonic power metal". Whatever, I was never good at labels. I call it "Fscking kick ass music.".

To each their own I guess. 😉 I love her voice.. I'm nervous about the new singer. Maybe she'll be better, but it would be terrible if she sucked.

Not all of those bands are great, but a good majority of them are. Most have male singers though.

I love Blind Guardian, Demons & Wizards, Dragonforce, Iced Earth, Helloween.. haven't really heard of many of the others. I've heard Symphony X is good.

you already got most of the good ones there. Symphony X, Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica are good.
Avantasia, Falconer, and Firewind are pretty good too.
Another band that I love is Ayreon, although they are pretty much considered progressive.

That might not necessarily be a bad thing, I love Dream Theater.

Edit: There is a rumor that the new Nightwish singer is the singer from Epica, but I don't think it's been substantiated.

Nightwish IS power metal... unless you just want to name them "Symphonic Metal", thats ok too

gothic metal wikipedia - not that this is all there is but I've heard a lot of these bands and Nightwish sounds NOTHING like them.

again, not a complete ro definitive list, but Nightwish is listed under power metal and is more like power metal than gothic metal.

... The only thing Nightwish had in common with gothic metal bands was the vocals

Nightwish is closer to Dragonforce than they are to say, early Tristania

Woot. Go Finland! Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica are a bit different but you will likely likely like them too.
