Well, someone had to say it!

I've been listening to Oceanborn for the last week and I can't get enough of it. Out of the 10 songs on it, only 1 is so-so and the rest are absolutely great!

Anybody else like them?

Hell yes.
Have all their albums, and Im going to their concert next Saturday.

I must say, I didn't expect to find anyone with such good tastes in ATOT ;)

A friendof mine told me to check out Therion back in March and since then, I've fallen in love with this type of music! I've been listening to little else since then :)

Unfortunately this type of music seems to be very unpopular here, so no concerts for me :(

Yeah, Therion is pretty good as well.

Though good "opera rock" bands are rare, unfortunately.

Nightwish :) I like all their albums.

Doubt we ever see the day when bands like Iron Maiden, Slayer, Exodus, Judas Priest, etc dominate the music scene (like I think they should!). But it sure doesnt hurt to hope!

Unfortunately, I agree.
Im just happy some of the old bands are still playing, Im gonna go to Manowar's concert on the 24'th, good times.
Unfortunately I missed both Alice and Ratt when they were here. :(

But really, the metal scene is still going strong, unfortunately it's just not getting any attention, there are so many great bands that go unnoticed :(

Gothicy stuff:

- Tristania
- Within Temptation (softer, but still good)
- After Forever (especially the last CD, between WT and Nightwish)
- Haggard
- Cryptal Darkness
- Anathema
- Gandillion
- The Gathering
- Hollenthon
- In The Woods...
- My Dying Bride
- Lacrimosa
- Lacuna Coil
- On Thorns I Lay
- Paradise Lost
- Rakoth
- Tiamat
- To Die For
- Ulver
- Vintersorg
- Sirenia

Harder stuff, same idea:
- Trail Of Tears
- Moonspell (Wolfheart and Irreligious)
- Opeth
- Orphanage
- Edge Of Sanity
- Cradle of Filth
- Dimmu Borgir
- Samael
- Dark Tranquility

Ah well, it got mixed up a bit :)

Wasn't saying it was all identical, but the people who like Nightwish and Therion tend to like those bands too.

I do at least, and I know a lot of people who do too :)

Even got a lot of people at work to like several of those bands, and Within Temptation scored several hits in the Dutch and Belgian charts a little while ago.

My brother likes Paradise Lost/Within Temptation/Emperor, but not Nightwish much, and I'm the opposite, I like Nightwish but not the others.
Dunno if you would consider Hammerfall similar, Dragon Lies Bleeding is damned good though.

Heh :)

Try Demons & Wizards, Labyrinth and stuff like that, might be more of your liking.

I've listened to a bunch of that stuff, but the whole "dark goth" thing really isn't my thing, too depressive, Labyrinth, Tiamat and Lacuna Coil are good though.

Ever listened to a band called "Leviathan"?
Good band, don't exactly know what category to place them in... anyway, listen to "The Door", one of their best.

Oh and Marty, if you like Strat, you shoud listen to Freedom Call, I'd say both fit into the general category Power metal.
And another of those "I can't quite place them in a category" bands is Royal Hunt, they've made some really good stuff.

Well, better archive this thread, if my site ever gets done, I'm gonna throw up music recomendations for people with good tastes :)

It's all for the greater good, Tarja is going to study opera in Germany for roughly a year, so once she gets back with NW she'll hopefuly rule even more than now :D

Oh and on a sidenote, the concert rocked!
In particular the new songs, from Century Child, sounded even better live than on the album.

The guys also played Crazy Train while giving Tarja a short break. :)

I was awake at 1:30am, and Nightwish kept me awake for another hour, so I didn't get to sleep until nearly 2:45am. I couldn't stop listening, their songs are so damned good :(.
Do they have 5 albums at the moment? I hope so, that means I'll have another 2 to get and enjoy, so the wait for the 6th will be more bearable :).

They have 4 full albums, in order of release:
Angels Fall First
Oceanborn
Wishmaster
Century Child

Then there's "Over the hills and far away", which isn't a full album, but more of a maxi single or something, but it's definately worth getting, one of their best songs, 10th man down, is on it.

Anyway, if you don't have it already, get Oceanborn, their best IMO.

I have Oceanborn, Century Child and Wishmaster, I "aquired" 10th Man Down, and it's one of the best songs ever, especially the guitars in the middle which leads to the blokes bit.

Over The Hills and Far Away will be my next purchase, because of the title track and 10th man down, but the live versions of the tracks are meant to have loads of atmoshphere as well.

Listen to it while going asleep instead, works for me, heck, I've always listened to music when going to bed, I sleep much better to the sound of Maiden, Nightwish, or whatever :)
