Surprisingly painless. The left mouse button on my laptop has been broken for 2.5 years, and I'd just gotten used to tapping, but last spring, on ebay, I bought a replacement for the entire front top part of the case off ebay for ~$20. I finally got around to doing it today, partly due to fear of destroying the thing, and amazingly (because I basically had to dissassemble the entire laptop), it only took ~30 mins.
