This is a nef thread. It appears that the mods have decided to leave us alone in here... which is probably a good idea. We can just nef up a single huge thread rather than nef up 20 new threads and hijack a few every night.
 
I've been sleeping days and peeping in windows late at night. My own windows, so it's cool. I guess that would be peeping out. Eh. It's such a quiet "bedroom" neighborhood I feel weird even walking around my property at night. Going out barefoot in the winter and then back in to a warm house is really quite nice.

Then in the summer, the blocks in the walkways and retaining wall retain some of the day's heat, so that's also fairly pleasant. Except when it rains. Then they stay damp for hours and hours.

man i would love to be able to go out barefoot in the winter

nights are frigid from september to april. currently 43 out

Oh same here. Right now it's 64F outside but that about 15F above normal so I hear you.

When I go out and do that it's usually around freezing or below. But that's the beauty of it. It's like a Scandinavian spa bath after the sauna but for your feet. I'd never jump into freezing water unless I managed to raise my core temp at least 5 degrees. The NSF (norway, sweden, finland) folks have the most beautiful women but they are still just a bit off.

I guess I have very warm feet or better circulation than my age might suggest but even after say 5 minutes, it still doesn't hurt. It does soon after though. But it's a blissful 5 minutes. Also, I'm usually dressed in sweatpants and a 3/4 length, 8lb leather coat.
 
Has anyone ever had Japanese poke (it's a sort of rice salad)? BTW, "poke" is pronounced poke-ee just like doge is supposed to be pronounce doggy. I do like the pronunciation of dojsh better though.

Anyway, my local poke place has closed the indoor dining area but they have a couple tables on the sidewalk and it's such a beautiful day here. Sunny with a somewhat aggressive breeze.

It's rare for me to sit in direct sunlight for more than say 5 or 10 minutes - and much less in mid-summer. And even at this time of year, with my right side orthogonal to the sun, it really started to burn after just a few minutes. So I had to flip myself on the grill and move to the opposite side of the table. That actually worked quite well.

I really don't know what my deal is. I do take at least one medication (total 15 but never checked any of the others) that I KNOW makes me more sensitive. But this problem started when I was just taking various nutritional supps. I suppose there are some that might have similar side effects but I never checked.

At this point it's safe to assume I'm not really what you would want to call and "outdoorsy" person. I spent a few years in a non-pedophile scout troop and that pretty much maxed out my 'outdoors and nature' quota for this life and the next.

That's not to say it wasn't a blast, mostly. I suffered sub-zero temps for a weekend in a survival exercise. Splelunked a bunch of caves in PA (they've got some nice ones that aren't open to the public because anyone without at least some training stands a good chance of dying or getting lost - sorta same-same), hiked Jockey Hollow, used a really repulsive latrine at summer camp. Almost drowned trying to swim. But I did learn to float indefinitely on my back which saved my precious buttocks that time in FL when I got caught in an undertow.

I could probably go on but you get the idea.

Also, i had meningoencephalitis when I was 6 and that tends to make you a bit photosensitive - but just the eyes. I was probably the only 15 year old always wearing a lid and shades.

And it looks like they're comin' around the bend to the long awaited point.

So . . . bottom line, I'm a house cat.

edit: this is sort of relevant from a psych POV. That time in FL was in mid-August. Mid-day, I decided to sit out by the pool. Idiot, idiot, idiot. Less than 15 minutes later, I had probably one of the worst burns you're likely to see. No joke about the time. It would have been longer but some lovely couple came out to warn me. I don't even want to imagine . . .

What exactly is sun poisoning. I don't think I got it because I didn't need any treatment, but I was in absolute agony for a couple of weeks. Then the skin on my chest and stomach started to peel off in letter to legal sized sheets. OMG, finally, sweet release.
