Nifty [useless] windows/ IE fact

If you use ctrl+O to open a webpage you can type in command lines that usually go into start/run command line. For example msconfig or ping. Enjoy this little piece of stoopid trivia.

old fact...I knew about it but good advice!! shortcuts rulw kinda like tab one to change focus on IE and alt-tab to cycle between windows and start+m to minimize all of your current windows..

I use Start+PauseBreak -> System Properties every so often, it's kinda' handy.

Start+D -> Same as Start+M (minimize all)
Start+F -> Find File
Start+E -> Opens Windows Explorer
Start+R -> Run

And yes, I just went through each key, pressing in tandem with the Start Key.

hit F6 in IE and it'll highlight your address. This doesn't always work though. It's like Tab, but the cycle is reversed (from what I can tell).

in IE hit the backspace and its like hitting the back button, you will go back one page.

Using the Ping.exe program, how can I get the window to stay open after it finishes? My comp executes the program, but closes the finished DOS window before I can read jack.

Open the DOS window.

Start> Programs> MSDOS prompt

Its the way I do it. Is there any shortcuts?

I just noticed that if you use Start + 'whatever', then if 'whatever' is not one of those letters that does something special, it will select the first thing that starts with that letter in whatever program has the current focus.
i.e. if I'm on my desktop and press Start + N, Network Neighborhood is selected.

I don't think this is really useful at all.

 

You don't have to hold down start for that, Lester. Just push "N".

ALT + D highlights your address bar in IE...
ALT + left arrow is the same as clicking back in your browser
ALT + right arrow is the same as clicking forward in your browser

In the stutdown menu -- <Start --> Shut Down>

HOLD LEFT shift, <yes, keep holding>
then click restart,
then click ok

Keep holding shift until the top of the screen says,
&quot;Windows is now restarting&quot;

This restarts only windows, not your entire system.

It works in 98, maybe others.

CTRL C: copy
CTRL X: cut
CTRL V: paste
CTRL Z: undo
CTRL B: bold text
CTRL U: underline
CTRL I: italicize
CTRL R: right align the paragraph
CTRL L: left align the paragraph
ALT Tab: cycle through programs
SHIFT Tab: cycle backwards through fields

... that's it for now...
