Priced flights to Vegas.
United cheapest didn't allow you to pick your seat and only allowed a personal item that fits under the seat.

For $50 more, u can pick your seat (regular, not upgraded) and have a carry on luggage in the over head bins.

Frontier had dirt cheap fares ($200) but same deal as United.
But for $75 EACH way, u can get their 'the works' package.
any seat (including exit row), have 1 carry on and 1 check in luggage.

So that $200 became $350 round trip. :(

Where are you flying from? Cuz 200 bucks would be considered a friggen steal depending on the distance.
350 may be considered a great bargain.

Dulles airport.
I'm used to $225 fares from last year on Southwest. And fuel prices were higher!

Swa no longer flies nonstop from Dulles to Vegas :(

$350 to ship yourself to other side of the country sounds pretty good to me. It cost me ~$40 to send a small box to Sweden, and the box didn't even get peanuts.

Haha. I haven't flown in a couple of years, but "the works" is how I remember the standard fare to be. I usually used to fly either Delta or Southwest. Both were reasonable and never had any problems.

I remember when it was over $900 to fly to the GTA from here. Thanks to Porter it's now a bit over $100 instead.

The few times I've flown it was paid for by the company though, so I'm not too sure how much it cost or what package etc they got.

Vote with your wallet. Quit flying with the Big 3 douchebags (United, American, Delta) and fly with the likes of Southwest or Jet blue.

Keep doing what you're doing if you just want to keep losing more and do nothing but bitching.

On a completely unrelated subject, how do you like the new turbo subway at Dulles?
What are you talking about? Back in 2012 I heard they were going to do something, but this was the US of Lazy America so I expected 10-20 years before anything got done. Are you saying one can take a subway/rail from Dulles into DC now?

Just take a backpack as your personal item and you won't get charged. Between United and Frontier, I would fly Frontier.

Nickel and diming started years ago with the higher gas prices and extra fuel surcharge. Gas prices are normal now but all the extra charges have stayed like baggage fees and meal fees. Flying absolutely sucks now with TSA hassles, extra fees, and crowded planes.

But it's the same for hotels. Ripoff daily resort fees, self parking and valet fees, daily internet fees, Nespresso coffee pod fees, beach chair fees, etc.

Frontier has been doing this for a while now. It didn't used to, but I flew with them ~3 years ago and was surprised to find everything was an extra fee... similar to how Spirit works. It could be a good deal if you don't have a lot of bags with you, but you have to compare everything to make sure.

I just take Southwest.

Unfortunately voting with your wallet is tough\impossible for many since they live near fortress hubs or areas poorly served by Southwest and especially Jet Blue. There are large swaths of the country I can get to non-stop on Delta but would be 2 connections on Southwest (So a 2-4 hour trip becomes a more expensive 8 hour trip) and are not served by Jet Blue.

Delta, United and AA are looking at the success the likes of Frontier and Spirit have had with ancillary fees and how their growth pattern is still positive despite all the complaints. They see a massive customer base willing to put up with shitty service, complain about it but then fly the same airline again when that airline's price is a few $ less than someone else.

The guy who was the CEO of Spirit moved to Frontier around 2013 and their fees have been increasing since then along with their complaints

Frontier is run by hedge fund guy. They're like Spirit now. My wife thought the seats had more room and was more comfortable than United even though the Frontier seats are like plastic and don't even recline back. I would probably agree but I hate United. The worst flight of my life was San Francisco to Seoul United flight and every United flight I've flown have been average to bad. The culture of United and the workers there just don't give a damn. They act like you're inconveniencing them by flying with them.

That's a damn shame. I liked Frontier before all this and considered them a good rival of Southwest. Not anymore though

It's the result of people price shopping. The airlines wants to get the lowest price to show to get people to bite, then add fees and extras to get to the real price.
