This is a problem for modern society. This is just a stupid comment that he admits was stupid. But now it's a big deal. People are going to develop neuroses if they are always afraid of expressing themselves. At the same time it's fair to call out politicians on their judgment and statement. I'm not sure what the solution is.

Umm what? Politicians are different than normal people in that they are representative officials of a group of people. If their views are different than the people they are trying represent, then they have a problem. Now, if this politician was actually looking to represent people that hate Anime and Japan, and was looking to move up politically through that.... then more power to him I guess. I don't think that view gets very far, but he can sure try!

How about "Reality TV is a perfect example of why we shouldn't have stopped at Pearl Harbor."

I lol'ed at both, but then again I understand the difference between jokes and serious statements. Although in this day and age, the guy is a moron for posting that on facebook.

I like Anime.

I thought it was funny if it had been said by someone else.

I think the guy is an idiot.

/thread

Pretty much this. WTF is a sitting elected official thinking putting a comment on this up on his facebook? Doh!

Heh heh, I'm just glad he's a Democrat. Wait - how long has he been a Democrat?

I hate Anime too (bug-eyed little girls with pneumatic stripper bodies? Eeww!), but wow, what a stupid thing to say. Especially for an elected official. Yeah, he's a moron, and yeah, I laughed. But everyone's had the taste of feet at one time or another.

So you'd still be cool with using LP's in 2010? I mean, I do because I like the sound, but it's so hard to carry 100 hours' worth in your pocket.

I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate anime. I do not respect people who like it. I can overlook a person who listens to country music but I draw the line at anime.

But if you dare to say that, you'll be labeled as a backwards redneck sub-human piece of shit. But say you want to nuke the japs because of Anime and you are an educated free-thinking progressive.

State legislator is one step above (maybe less) a small town mayor.

In my gut though, both his statement and the statement in this thread about reality TV both have some appeal to them.

valuable life lesson: never put anything in print that you wouldn't want appearing on the front page of the ny times.

but tentacle porn pretty much outweighs any good things that have ever come from Japan.

In NH it is actually below a town mayor. The state HR members receive a salary of $100 per year. They are essentially volunteers.

What's your reasoning for this? Do you not respect people who watch Reality TV? American Idol? Game shows?

What does enjoying a type of show on TV have to do with respecting them?

This is a trick question, right?

Give them a break, they live on an Island in the Pacific. Calamari is probably a main dish.
