RIP
What did she die of?

And irony that she dies on George Jetson's bday.

And then there were 3 (Kirk, Sulu, and Checkov)

It was over the news websites.

I am grateful Dr. King convinced Nichelle not to quit the nascent Sci Fi series. He explained that to Nichelle that even role was small, it was crucial because she was breaking ground as a Black actress.

Uhura's role (which included the first interracial kiss) gave hope to millions around the world.

Star Trek's Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) dies

For those who don’t know Star Trek TOS which debuted in 1966 was groundbreaking in that they demonstrated the idea of being woke. The inclusivity of not only the actors but the roles they played was far ahead of its time. Today we have a party denigrating the ideals portrayed by that series

The TOS episode with the Lincoln of Lincoln Logs . . . [too obscure]. I think he might have been a US president too though.

Anyway, the one with Abe was probably the first time I ever heard the word negress.

Remember the reactions in episodes where they came in contact with people of the past, their surprise how much crew was evolved. They went back in time beamed on board a pilot from the mid 60s. He was shocked to see women serving alongside men. He adapted quickly. How woke of them.

Conservatives have taken the opposite lessons from the show.

My favorite "social-justice" episode of TOS was "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield". (apologies for the small "overlap" in the vids)

I can recall watching this episode for the first time when I was a little kid and not wanting to believe anyone could ever be so shallow and hateful.

EDIT: I don't want hate to be all WE have left!

Hell they had a Russian on the bridge in the middle of the cold war. But instead of that future, we are heading towards the Nazi Romans with machine guns episode.

I didn't recall that epsiode until I read up on it. But it reminds me of the B5 episode where the Drazi fight each other based on what color sash they draw out of a barrel. When Ivanova grabs one of the sashes, she becomes the 'leader' of those with the same color sash.

Indelibly impressed in my memory because the first time I saw it as a kid I went "Hey! it's the Riddler!"

I am not ashamed to say I rubbed one out to Nichelle in that short skirt as a boy either. :imp:

@Captante,

It's funny because it's true. You know "she made you feel kind of funny, like when you used to climb the rope in gym class." :p
