what game do you think has the most realistic water?

I imagine a lot of people will say far cry...how about joint ops or hl2?

The water in 3dmark2k1 nature test was my favorite but only the lake, the stream water looked ass-tastic. I think the water-fall/flowing water effects in UT2k3/2k4 is pretty good but still not that great, haven't seen any better though. The water in farcry looks ok, haven't played it though, only seen screenshots so I can't reall evaluate it.

So far, it's highly dependant on level. The best water I have ever seen in a game was in the UT2003 Epic Games Bonus Pack level DM-IronDeity. It looks real.

Overall, I'd say the consistently best looking water I've ever seen has been in Morrowind and Battlefield Vietnam. Pixel Shaded water is hard to beat these days.

I have no doubt, after watching the demo videos that HL2's water will smack down all when it comes out. The results demoed so far look extremely impressive.

For those of you who havn't played Joint Ops...the water is pretty nice. It varies in clarity and "muddiness" and splashes nicely and all that too.

I'm excited to see the eventual use of vertex mapping in water generation. most games now render the ripples onto a flat texture...if you're swimming, the horizon still looks like a flat line. with vertex mapping we may get real ripples!

actually ut2k3/4 has some of the worst water effects out there. There arnt even any splashes, at all! It looks more like jelly than water. Farcry has the best water ive seen, halo comes second.
 
I think Morrowind still has the best water I've seen so far. I've noticed it changes a lot depending on which version of video drivers are installed, though.

Thats why I said it was heavily level dependant. Yes, UT2k3/UT2k4's water overall is not that impressive, but on Irondeity it's very well done. Hang on one sec while I bust a screeny.
