We have no representation in government anymore. I think I might vote a straight 3rd party ticket next election. Whats the point of booting out the Democrat crooks, and replacing them with Republican crooks?? The party establishments needs to be torn down. Going after Nader in the last election was the last straw for me.

I think that's a bit of hyperbole. Republicans waste our money, pollute the earth almost as much as Gore, and mettle in our personal lives. Democrats just waste our money, play the blame game, and wait for the next poll so to know which side to take that morning.

fixed.

politicians suck no matter which side they are on.

I really dislike arseholes that cannot post original ideas so chose to mangle those of others. If you've got something to say then say it in your usual sophomoric manner.

Simply put if Al Gore was a better politician:

1) Government coffers would be in better shape. Not b/c Gore is a fiscal conservative but b/c fewer tax cuts would have passed and a GOP Congress would likely have restrained spending. I doubt we would have a Medicare Drug Benefit.

2) Unlikely that the executive branch would have carte blanch to spy on US citizens without due process.

3) EPA and Interior wouldn't be run by industry lobbyists . . . which means doublespeak like Clear Skies and Healthy Forests wouldn't exist. There would be a little less mercury in the air/water and EPA would already be regulating car emissions (including CO2).

4) Al Gore might have messed up Afghanistan but it wouldn't be due to rushing to Iraq. My guess is that would save over 1/2 trillion over 8 years.

Tom DeLay and Barney Frank are both bad stewards of the government purse strings but at least Barney isn't peeking in my window, my Google searches, or my snail mail.

The next 2 years won't be any different than the previous 2 years.

Yep. Disappointingly so. And the liberal apologists will always find reasons to blame conservatives for the wrong the liberals do.

I use "liberal" and "conservative" by design, instead of GOP or Dem. There are MANY Republicans who are far too liberal to be in the traditionally conservative party. The opposite is true of Dems. Although Im a Dem, I tend to vote on both sides of the aisle, as I am socially liberal, and fiscally conservative. But thats off topic.

As you said, theyre all pretty much the same.

I agree mainly because the average American doesnt keep tabs on their elected officials. If the public would use their vote instead of their mouth, we would have a decade of a revolving door in the House and Senate, and there would be REAL change.

But no. We are far to apethetic.

Believe it or not, I completely agree with you on this point. As a side note, I would expand my bolded text to include pretty much all of our elected officials. Everyone gets PAC money. Everyone.

Yeah, I can tell by the way you never started any threads about the Republicans doing stuff like this (and worse). You guys fall back on that "oh, I don't like ANYBODY doing it" line like that makes your political sniping any better, and hope that nobody noticed that you defended every little stupid thing the Republicans did while in power.

For the record, I don't like it either...but somehow I don't think dyed in the wool Republicans are really the ones to call the Democrats on anything.
It?s so fun watching the people who complained when used the Clinton administration as an excuse for what Bush is doing now doing the same thing.

We?ve gone from ?Just because Clinton did it doesn?t mean its right.?

To ?Well Republicans did it too.?

Let?s ban them from bringing family members on these trips and require them to fly commercial. The only time they should be flying on military jets is when they are going in or out of dangerous places like Iraq.

And Rain, ?dyed in the wool Republicans? would be fiscal conservatives by nature and therefore would not approve of anyone going on these types of wild spending sprees.

It's defintely hypocritical, but you know all about that. Hell you could be called as an "expert witness".

And the idea that ALL politicians are garbage is absurd. Please, instead of tar and feathering anybody with a certain name, judge each on a case by case basis. To do otherwise just makes you one more kind of bigot.

And you haven't been to the "Bill Maher rips Bush a new one over Regeant law school/DOJ scandal" thread to condem the Bushies for what is clearly another developing scandel of the current Admisitration.

I believe he was making a generality. Generalities are generally true. Dont nit-pick.

We do NOT elect politicians who represent us. That's the problem. As I stated elsewhere, if people would look beyond campign speeches and see voting records, board membership, etc, they would vote on THAT instead of the sh1t they (Dems AND GOP) spew in election time.

edit: horrid spelling

That's what I do. I can't stomach voting for Rs or Ds. Unless there's a particular candidate from some third party I like, it pretty much goes

1) Libertarian
2) Other third party
3) Against the incumbent

With #3, I figure if my only choices are R or D, I might as well at least vote out the scumbag that currently holds office. How do I know he/she is a scumbag? It's a politician isn't it? That's a pretty good indicator.

keyword, ALMOST.

keyword should be exactly....

republicans and democrats suck equally. members in each party only care about one thing and that is the party. Whats good for America is just a after-thought.

why should he stop? he is right. the person in office is never the person they claim to be before they got elected. the ones that are worth anything dont stay in office for long. that one MD who was a rep for 2 terms and now is in the senate and blows the whistle on PORK by both parties is my hero. he pisses a lot of people off and with out doupt the exception to who is in washington.

Not to mince words... but I'd say that anything good that happens re: America in Washington is a coincidence. ;)

An afterthought would imply at least SOME thought to what's bet for the people of this country.

Do you ever have a sense of humor?

Isn't healthy to be serious all the time. Relax Dems are trying to screw you as well... If you don't agree too bad. Politician's job is to screw you for their idea of the common good. Common good = them being re-elected because nobody can take care of them like they can. </tounge in cheek>

Hehe, you did exactly as I suggested in your own limited way and turn around and say he is right. No, I am right and it was me you agreed with. See if you can define ALL.

Meh, Dems are the lesser of two "evils". This past Republican congress and current administration was/is one of the worst in modern U.S. history. Well, the mid-90's BS from the right on flag burning was pretty damn bad too, all those lost man hours on a topic worthy of little discussion.

Overall, wasting tax dollars like that is pretty sad.
