The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help. Ronald Reagan
Pre tea party of course.

And we all had a great laugh saying he was right... until we examined Wall Street, and how employment has been reshaped since Reagan. Now that labor is barely providing half of what it used to, a desperate and hungry people need a stronger social safety net. Government is a non optional compliment to Capitalism. As more consumers are left behind, our Government is the only thing keeping us alive.

If you want to talk existential threats, Reagan and co. trying to collapse Capitalism under the weight of Wall Street is a big one. Like Democracy, Capitalism is built from the ground up. By consumers. Depriving consumers of the necessities also deprives Capitalism of its necessity. That's why both parties had leaders promoting stimulus in 2008. By its very principle, it is required. If Wall Street will not provide it, someone else has to or the whole system will collapse.

And there is only one entity with both the interests of the people and the cash flow to provide that stimulus.

.....
Myself, I'll always choose an ideology that has not historically culminated in either starving its people to death or shooting them in the head and burying them in mass graves. Progressive ideology ultimately becomes not compatible with freedom because it goes against human nature. Compliance is a requirement and those that won't must cease to exist.....

What a fucked up outlook on life. You have to be the most paranoid person I know I can't imagine all the fucked up news sites you get your bullshit from.

You all have spent too much energy arguing in a troll thread where the OP cannot spell conservative.

That doesn't bear any resemblance to actual political history. The conservative tradition was precisely about valuing traditional ways of doing things and objecting to rapid change, and above all it involved being suspicious of attempts to design social and economic systems based on abstract reason rather than tradition. That's why it's called 'conservatism'. At times that included acceptance of existing 'tax and spend' policies. Your rejection of British monarchical rule was supposedly about objecting to taxation, was it not? The conservative position was to support the monarchy and the taxation that went with it.

After the industrial revolution you first had the rise of liberalism, then an increasing merger of liberalism and conservatism, as the industrialist class, that gave rise to liberalism, increasingly embraced the values of the old land-owning class, and vise-versa. So the distinction between the two has become rather confused (Thatcher was much more a liberal than a conservative)

You seem to want to use the word 'conservative' as a label for neo-liberal. Americans do love changing the English language in novel ways, but you don't get to retrospectively change the meaning of words with fantasies about 'as far back as history records'.
Not even close, but keep trying.

True, reality is "not even close" to your fantasy alternative-history. But carry on living in your alt-right dream-world, by all means. You'll have a meeting with reality one day, I'm sure.

It really has gone full circle. Liberals are the new outdated-thinking conservatives. I was thinking about posting about this actually. Liberal ideology has for so long been the mainstream that I think the real counter culture that is rising goes against their outdated views. Today the liberals push for institutionalized racist policies like affirmative action and handicap some demographics with social programs. Today the liberals are intolerant of any thinking outside their very strict and totalitarian views. Today it is the liberals that will fight tooth and nail to shut down free speech to a public audience they find distasteful or don't agree with. The liberals ignore parts of the constitution to push for their partisan views. And they're worse to Trump than the right was to Obama. The left really has to do some soul searching.

It's been fun watching Trump destroy the GOP from within. The more crazy he appears, the more the lunatic fringe embraces him and outs themselves! You can read it in the desperation of their posts here as the fervently tag socks in and out to do their bidding! It's beautiful to watch so many expose themselves as insane and quite frankly not worthy of the title American as they lap up Trump's rhetoric like it was mothers milk...

You forgot about them trying to rewrite history by defacing our national monuments and removing anything they find distasteful for any reason or no reason at all.

"No republic has long outlived the discovery by a majority of its people that they could vote themselves largesse from the public treasury.

Alexander Fraser Tytler"

The difference is that some of us hope to curtail it, not expand it.

Standard right wing tome & quite ironic given the borrowing & tax giveaway to America's wealthiest unfolding before us.

The whole headset is entirely screwed up, anyway. I mean, should any of our fellow Americans stumble & fall we should just turn our backs on them, right?

Of course not, private charities and churches step up to help people. Much like Chick-fil-a stepped forward to help travelers in Atlanta. You want to force the government and other taxpayers to do it for you since you don't do it on your own.
