Saw a nice STI Swapped Bug eye thats too far for me to drive to and get a real feel for. I am in no way looking to buy one but the level of work and detail on this car made me think about some of the discussions we have had here on the forum about modded cars.

This thing looks done. Asking price is 17k ish.

I do like the road not just the desitination when it comes to builds but costs wise you cant beat someone spending 20k in parts and time and doing it for you.

Full inspection needed obviously. Would not recommend for the noob however.

Hell guy is even asking for a trade!

If I had the room I would do it. I would just take it farther anyway!

Selling modded cars is a real crap shoot. Oddly enough I sold my swapped Honda to a guy here! Of course you never get anywhere near the money you put into it. I think I got maybe an extra $1k with the swap and other mods....I easily spent 4-5 times that building it. Oh well.

Looks pretty nice. At the same time, heavily boosted i4s with custom work like that are probably always a risk. It wasn't modded to be treated nicely, there's no telling if it was abused, and a lot can go wrong for sure.

Personally I always prefer starting with stock or near-stock, and doing it yourself. Bonus for starting with a new/warrantied motor and transmission.

My BIL had his Suby up to about 400 or whp. Weak link was the auto trans (surprise surprise). The engines themselves are fairly robust.

He is putting in a new suspension but didn't take care of a simple parking brake?
Replacing the parking brake shoes on my 300zx is almost as bad as changing a turbo so I can see how lots of guys just put them off. If I were selling it however I would have had it done.

Yeah, that definitely seems hacked to me.
Most of those mods listed seem in line with what alot of guys are running on NASIOC

Totally reliable! (except for the new trans) 😉
The stock wrx tranny can hold 300-350 reliably so with a conservative tune you should be ok at those numbers. At least its new! lol

I was only talking about the parking brake. Its an easy setup in a wrx. No excuse to not have it working. Something something devil in the details.

Why put that huge wing on it? Would have made for a better sleeper without it. Get some nice forged STI wheels for it too, not those ugly wheels he has on it.

Hell no! You can get a real sti for that price, not be hacked together( in theory, probably modded but sti's are hardier), and the upgrades. Plus, the 02 5spd is the least reliable of them all, no way I'd want that power minus the 6spd.

Having driven a mildly modded wrx for years now, its a fun car and I love it. However, having been in several sti's they are just better all around and no amount of hacking stuff together will give you that. I wish I had gotten one, just didn't have the cash at the time.

crack pipe.

do all that work. replace your transmission because it can't handle the power, then just 'forget' to reconnect the parking brake?

HA.

Oh and selling the car while putting in a different suspension? Nonsense

at asking price I agree with you you are real close to a STI. Premodded cars like this though intrigue me. Sure some guys dump cars when trouble starts to hit but I have also known MANY guys that just want to do something different and when a car is done they get bored with it.

Seriously though you guys act like the 5 speed is made of glass. Ballmode has been running a modded wrx in the 300 HP range for years on the stock transmission. Guy probably ran on e85 for a while and blew trans and decided he wanted to go to a different setup.

BTW asking price on modded cars like this is a joke as well. Guy would probably take 4-6k less or a cash and trade. Saw a guy here locally take 9k for a 2002 wrx with 165k miles. If one could get this car for 10-12 in trade/cash they would have a nice car. You can always send the transmission to rallispec in NJ if you want to retune for 400+

The gearing on the 5 speed if you go RA gears is a tad quicker than the 6 speed. On could buy a six speed and sell the nearly new 5 speed off and recoup a big chunk of the investment.

For Lulz I offererd to trade him my new rb20 S13 and my 2004 expedition in trade. Dont think he will take it lol

Ok then guys would you take this car for say 10k?

As a project car I think its worth $10k.

And yes, people make too big of a deal about the stupid 5-speed. Its fine. Abuse any trans of course it'll blow up.

Yay a shoutout!
First I'll like to comment on my WRX and compare it to this one. Although I don't have the JDM STI engine, I do have the STI Spec C turbo but that is a fairly easy plug n'play for any 2.0L WRX (USDM 02-05).

The parts that are on my car are all bolt on and require no extra installation for replacement/repair such as my STI injectors, or my intake/pulley/sways.

However with the suspension mods, 02/03 have different top hats compared to say the 04/05 so you'd always be having to buy specific parts for a specific mod year.

My front calipers are off a 06/07 WRX, but my rear rotor is actually a Legacy GT so you always gotta keep part numbers handy.

Having an STI is fairly easier when it comes to modding as its really from what I have experienced the 04 stands alone, and the 05-07 share stuff, and 08+

For the money though I'd rather have a real sti and mod it, if that motor was in a prior gen impreza I'd pay 13-14k for it and only if I knew how to work on it.

I always see the Impreza as a step up above a modded Civic/Integra as parts swap between years/models they actually hold their own in racing, but it's the image of it all that makes me want to get rid of mine.

With 46 bucks a month full coverage, 25 mixed/28 highway mpg... seats 4 in a pinch... and is cheap to repair I have trouble getting rid of it. Oh and when the turbo kicks in that feels addictive too because I can have the woosh effect without the spinny out effect 🙂

You could buy mine off me for 12, I go get that S2000 for 13,500, and I get a small SUV beater?

By the way, I'm buying some hawk pads and need an allignment which you know the perfect guy for (assuming they still exist next door), when I get my parts I'll come up there.

I also gotta put on another exhaust hanger and since you got a lift well let's just say I'll throw in a beer too
