It's amazing Brooklyn get such a bad rep. Brooklyn is HUGE. There are both good and bad neighborhoods. There are a ton of homes, which are worth millions such as this
Mansion.
Having lived in Brooklyn for most of my 25 years (Binghamton U. for 4 years), here is a short list of nice neighborhoods and some essential info.
Neighborhood-----Price---# Train Stops to Manhattan
Brooklyn Heights--$$$$--------2
Carroll Gardens----$$$---------3-4
Boerum Hill---------$$----------3
Cobble Hill----------$$$---------3-4
Park Slope----------$$$---------7
Williamsburg-------$$----------~2
Then there are the up and coming neighborhoods such as..
Greenpoint
Clinton Hill
Prospect Heights
Fort Greene
Then there are the affluent neighborhoods that are FAR from Manhattan.
Manhattan Beach
Bay Ridge
some others I can't think of.
I don't know too much about this last group as I grew up in Park Slope and now live in Cobble Hill. If you happen to be young, the best neighborhoods would be Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill or Williamsburg. Lots of younger people moving to these areas to escape the ridiculous rents in Manhattan. Also, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill and Cobble Hill all border each other, each having about a 5 block radius. If you?re the "artsy" type, Williamsburg is definitely for you, although rents there have skyrocketed and a lot of people have moved to neighboring Greenpoint.
Although I'm a little biased, IMO, Brooklyn is a great place to live. I hope I have gotten at least one person to reconsider their feelings for Brooklyn.
