NICE Improvement w/new nVidia 70.90 Drivers!!

I'm loving these new beta 70.90 forceware drivers!

The took my 3DMark05 score from 5265 w/67.03(or 67.02) to 5412 at stock sppeds! I wasn't even getting that by oc'ing the old drivers. That's nice increase in my book...not to mention IQ seems to have imporved...wtg nVidia.

Let the synthetic driver optimizations begin... I have noticed no increase in 3DMark scores from the 4.10's to the 4.12 betas. And yet my real world gaming has increased dramaticly.

A few problems being reported with Video Overlay, although I have not noticed this. You can get the drivers here 🙂

for those who saw the HardOCP benchmarks, is it just me or is 80fps in HL2 w/AAx6 & AFx16 @ 16x12 a little off? I'm playing it with 4xAA & 8xAF @16x12 with no GPU related slowdown, but wouldn't the extra AA & AF just kill it? I'm interested to try but won't see my desktop for prolly 24 hours since I have exams....:-(

i think dapunisher found that upping ATi or Nvidia up to 16xaf had little or no impact on performance...im not sure why and i cant remember what he said but he did benchmarks

and the most diff between 4xaa 8xaf and 4xaa 16xaf was 2fps,

IIRC Nvidia cant do 6xAA and there not to much of a hit with 6xAA on ATi cards either. nvidias highest is a 8x supersampling mishmash that seriously kills performance but looks uber

I just tried it... but it doesnt work any video file when you scretch the screen to full size... so I changed back to the 67.02 drivers also no change in benchmark still at 4200~ with the BFG 6800 OC unlocked to 16x6

3dmark score means caca. nv optimizes a lot of their drivers specificly to fool you with 3dmark scores. There are some stellar drivers that score like crap on 3dmark, but give great game performance. 65.73s anyone ? :roll:

I agree completely....but I'm getting about a 2-6 fps gain in most of my benchies. I like that. 🙂

No they cannot do that to a 3dMark score. You cannot optimize for 3dMark or its benchmarks. Thats why everyone bashed them when they tried and Futuremark released a patch that fixed what Nvidia did.

I have also heard of a 2-6fps gain in normal games however.

explain how the 65.73 drivers are still considered some of the best performing for the 6800 series, yet they give horrible 3dmark 03 & 05 scores ? I can attest to this, as with my gt I score 10200 with 65.73's on 3dmark03 but get 12008 with the latest official ones 69. whatever I cant remember.. the same with 05 I scored like 3XXX on 05 and I again get 5XXX with the official 69. Yet my fps is better in d3 and many other games with the 65.73. There are also driver reviews that show the 65.73s great performance. So explain how it is exactly that they cannot do this and this cannot happen ?

Doesn't matter with the drivers, if the screen messes up with a full video file playback then it's CAca too... however the 70.90 drivers still scored the same with the FF11 Benchmark 3... so I see no huge differences with this driver.

They do not optimize for the benchmark.

Not real sure but i believe they just optimize for specific things found in the benchmark. ATI does it to. That is why there are futuremark approved drivers which are meant to be benchmarked. Also they might give lower quality IQ and certain optimizations in the driver architecture. There is a bunch of stuff they can do to get around that. However they cannot optimize SPECIFICALLY for 3dMark.

modifiying anything for the purpose of 3dmark seems specific. thanks.

I had that same full-screen problem w/66.xx, but 67.xx and 70.xx fixed it. I'm not having the same problem as you....but I know, it's rather frustrating when it appears.

a real game.....

DOOM³ ~1280x1024
67.02 = 81.7 fps
70.90 = 87.4 fps

🙂

That's a huge jump!:shocked:

they actually exist....dang i thought it was a joke.....a ploy so that ppl saw the BFG logo so some guy could win a 6800utlra oc in a competiton

When 6X AA is chosen on most Forceware drivers they default back to no anti-aliasing. That explains the high framerates.
