Actually, I bought 2 of those cables and put one in my comp.. they are VERY VERY VERY well made! They look a hell of a lot better than those home-grown electrical-tape-wrapped monstrosities. I would definitely say they're worth $15.

I worked in Audio for a long time you can't imagine how much people were willing to spend for cables. From a cd to a preamp could be 100's of dollars for plain old copper. The makers must of laughed all the way to the bank. Today they have cables that cost a $1000 for a pair of RCA interconnects. Audiophiles will swear there is a difference.

$15 seems rather reasonable considering they looked very well made and had rugged jacket. I wouldn't want to have a computer problem and find out it was the cables I tried to make.

Go to any computer show and get them for a buck. Or your local computer shop.

I swear, grow some nads and try to make your own. I did this to mines and been using them for about 18 months now. But I didn't use electrical tape, but instead, used nylon tie-wraps. Plus, they are (she is)sooooo easy to strip and make. Just make a small cut in the ribbon and part the wires.

being the cheap bargin guy that I am ,I just folded my cables twice and put those plastic tie-wraps every 4" or so, why do you have to cut the cables?, having said that ,the $15 cables do look very sweet.....

compgeeks has those 80 pin connector ata 66/100 cables for about $6 ea

and there's also this place that i found on pricewatch called the cableclub or something that sells it for $2 ea. its a cheezy website, very amateurish, but its got some cheap prices.

edit - my bad. i just clicked on the picture to see what it looked like and the name rounded cable is a fitting description :) all apologies......... i guess its a great price, however, the shipping there is kind of outrageous tho.

I hope you guys do realize that we are talkin' about round ATA cables, not normal flat ones. Cause if you are referring to flat cables, I can find em for that cheap also, but the round ones are the expensive stuff.

We are talking about "Round" or "Rounded" cables here...
Compgeeks has 40-pin_80-conductor regular 66/100 cables for that price and I can't find any round cable... The cheapest on pricewatch is $20 before shipping :(.

well, i was going to buy a scsi ribbon from pccables. decent price on cables there. when i went to checkout, the weight was 0.32 lbs and the shipping and handling was over $15!!!

$15 shipping for a little cable is a bit too excessive for this poor chap

Spindler: I only paid $4 shipping for 2 ATA 100 Cables and a 3 1/2" to 5 1/4" Bracket @ PCCables.com, I dunno what the hell is up with that $15 shipping on a SCSI cable, but that has to be some huge error, if I were you I would try again, or call and find out whats the deal with that.

BTW, the only ATA66/100 cables I see @ compgeeks are not round, they are just the plain flat ones. Perhaps you can provide a link so I can see these $4 Round ATA100 cables.

$8-10 for a flat ATA66/100 ribbon cable, depending on length, assuming free shipping ... ;)

I've "rounded" dozens of standard IDE & floppy cables ...

Wrapping an ATA66/100 cable is a whole different story ...

End of story.

yea naturally it should not be as hard to cut a normal ide cable to make em rounded, but as for ATA66/100 cables, I definately do not think its worth the chance you run of messing it up. Once you mess up 1 ATA66/100 cable, and you have to go out and buy another, you could have just bought a round cable, and saved yourself all the hassle and had a nicer looking product.

Plycon may have them in stock, but they do cost more than they do at PCCable.com, and I know for a fact that they do not cost $15 shipping cause I already ordered mine, and shipping was like $5.55.

Here is a copy of my invoice:
1517 ULTRA ATA/100 ROUND TWISTED DUAL IDE 3 CONN 40 PIN 80 CABLE 18-Inch 1 x 15.00 = 15.00
01518 ULTRA ATA/100 ROUND TWISTED DUAL IDE 3 CONN 40 PIN 80 CABLE 24-Inch 1 x 17.00 = 17.00
00501 3.5 FLOPPY BRACKET 1 x 2.99 = 2.99
Subtotal = 34.99
Shipping & Handling = 5.55
==========
Total Sale = 40.54

Dude the cables rock. I can't wait till mine come. Also your case is very neat and orgranized with wires placed nicely, you must have some good ass air flow in that case, nice job dude.
