Athlon. XP 2000+ (1.67GHz) Computer (S3000Z)

$369 less 10% (code available at FW) less $50 rebate = $282. There is apparently an educational discount of an additional 5% for college students - you have to register for the Academic Program at hpshopping.com. The 10% expires 4/11 and I think the $50 expires 4/12 but there is supposed to be another one that starts 4/13.

Included Features:
1.67 GHz AMD Athlon(TM) XP Processor 2000+
V.90 K56flex modem
One-year limited hardware warranty; 24-hour, 7 days a week phone support
3.5in 1.44MB Floppy Disk Drive
2 USB 2.0 & 1 lEEE 1394 Front Ports USB 2.0 technology
Integrated 10/100Base-T Fast Ethernet
Compaq Presario Software Suite
256MB DDR 2100 FREE upgrade
40GB 5400 rpm
16X DVD Drive
Integrated ProSavage graphics
Integrated audio
Win XP home
$50 Mail-In REBATE!

this is a pretty hot deal. i just got in on it. it seems better than the dell 4550 deal in a lot of ways. they have free shipping too!

i got the configuration that allisolm listed plus the dvd+rw for an addition $130 or so. Total came out to be about $397 after rebate.

Attention: If you buy any Compaq/HP ..one of the first things to do after setup and creating a systemrestore point...if you've ordered with a burner of any sort..is to use a CDR ..to grab any batch of data(even that AOL CD whatever..) and do a test burn. If burn is a success..go into PowerManagement/Options and set(after noting/writing down what the factory set is) all three ..monitor,system and harddrive(s) to Never (turn off/standby)..on Applying and Ok..time for you to grab 5/6 blank known good quality(TaiyoYuden) CDRs and make your not provided by the vendor System Restore CDs.

<edit> ask AT user Ziptar
I need someone who got one of these to do me a favor. I need a set of restore CD-ROMs. I whacked my parttion and now I need a restore .
just a reminder..:(

Just read over at FW that the 10% coupon code has been killed by Compaq. :frown:

I prefer DELL better than Compaq.
I've a DELL Dimension 4500 and bought my parents a Compaq. For my DELL, it comes with Windows XP disk, restore disk and driver disks, for the Compaq, nothing at all. They split your harddisk to 2 partitions and put all those files at the D drive.
I also think DELL's customer support and warranty service are better than Compaq too.
