I'm looking into a job in the tech area of San Diego off Scranton Rd in the Sorrento Valley. I was wondering how the housing market is nearby and if its a nice place to live. What surrounding areas should I look into?

there are slums and ghetto neighborhoods just like any other metropolitan area.

OP, you need to tell us what you're looking to do? buy a house? rent an apt? buy a condo? budget?

I just spent the weekend in Encinitas. It was quite nice. I don't know what mortals pay but the two houses for sale we passed on one of our walks were not inexpensive. One half duplex on ocean = $2.75 million, one 1800 sf house across street from ocean = 1.75 million. I assume prices drop dramatically w/ distance from ocean.

Ideally I'd like to buy a house and rent out 1 or 2 rooms, if I can afford it. If not, I'd probably share a 2 bedroom apartment with someone. I don't really have a set budget, but I'm thinking I might be able to swing a $500k house with two renters.
