If I were still living with my parents and had 50k saved up, an iPhone would be the last thing on my mind.

50k goes fast if you don't have a solid job and a plan for the future. An IPhone is a small toy compared to car, rent, property taxes, and insurance payments. Probably less than 2 years and thats not including any other expenses like food and entertainment.

I thought you said its hookers OR blow to be safe!

The only logical conclusion is that you're an ATOT assassin.

Hay what can I say I like high quality stuff. I spent 10,000 on computers and HT equipment during the 4 years I was working and saving up that same 50k in savings. And this was on a 15-$17/hr job. I like nice stuff :) If I were getting hookers and blow it would be hookers OR blow but the best of either one for 1500 ;) But far be it from me to tell others not to have both

Perhaps. I know of people who fail MUCH worse and I'm working on improving my life. So whatever.

BTW what state is that from? I usually only see west coast plates from the US up here and I haven't seen that blue one before I don't think.

At least it looks like that's what I'm going to get. Course I only worked for about 1/2 the year last year so that accounts for some of it. So what if anything should I spend it on? Right now I don't have a job, been unemployed for about 7 months, so I'm not spending it on ANYTHING till I get a job. Once I do I may just leave it in my savings anyway as well, I'm not necessarely spenidng it. I was looking at a iPhone 3GS. However I would probably want to wait till the 4th generation iPhones come out. Or maybe upgrade my computer, could use a new vid card (maybe SLI :) ) Or just save it obviously.

 The parts you highlight basically cover all options? If you think I fail because I'm unemployed well read a little and you can see that I am going to get a job first. If you think I fail because I want an iPhone read a little and you can see that I can equally see spending it on a video card. If you think spending it is stupid read a little and you can see I seriously consider just saving it.

You could donate it to children in Haiti.

Okay, that's just bullshit. You could pay for a class and improve your odds of taking receivement of gainful employment when you are ready to do so.

I bought a house last year, and I am 1099'd + self employed

This is going to be complicated taxes I bet this year...

This is only the 3rd or 4th time I've filed (Canadian taxes remember though). I did it 2 different ways so I could better learn how it's done. I did it all by hand then again using the free online service at QuickTax. The quicktax service gave me about $120 more than what I got by hand, I think I left one item off so I think I know why there is the discrepency. It's actually sort of fun to learn how to properly do this. I can see it would indeed be complicated to file if you were self emplyed, had a dependant(s) and or had lots of investments. 95% of the form was blank for me LOL.:D

I think about $50 of that should go towards beer for me and the other Vancouver ATers on the 20th. :sneaky:

Well I was getting (combined) $4,500 back but then remembered I settled a large amount of debt this past year so that ate into it by about a grand, which sucks but I'd rather than than of paid back the full face value of the debt I settled.

I have a perfect excuse for that one. I don't have the money in hand and don't know exactly what I will be getting. You know, the proverbial the cheque is LITERALLY in the mail :) :sneaky:

The point about the 50k is that living at home has enabled the op t save this stash!!! He wouldn't have been able to if he was paying rent, bills & food.

Bingo. Beleave me I'm not touting the benefits of staying at home either. 50k isn't much in the long run when you don't have much in the way of a job. It's just the ONE (well one of few) neat things I'm proud of.

I would wait about another year (post-Olympics housing crash) and then put a down payment on an apartment - $50k would go quite a ways, even in Vancouver.

Get a job in the mean time so that you have some savings on top of the $50k to live off once you move out.

Amazing. Two pages long, and no one has yet to point out that the paper(s) you file are the return, and the money you get back is the REFUND??? :hmm:

Oh......shoot.....guess I just messed up by pointing it out, huh?!?!? :\

Wow, living at home until 27. That is mind boggling to me. I'm not saying anything about it other than I just can't imagine doing that.
