At least it looks like that's what I'm going to get. Course I only worked for about 1/2 the year last year so that accounts for some of it. So what if anything should I spend it on? Right now I don't have a job, been unemployed for about 7 months, so I'm not spending it on ANYTHING till I get a job. Once I do I may just leave it in my savings anyway as well, I'm not necessarely spenidng it. I was looking at a iPhone 3GS. However I would probably want to wait till the 4th generation iPhones come out. Or maybe upgrade my computer, could use a new vid card (maybe SLI :) ) Or just save it obviously.

Sounds to me like it would be best off used to rebuild an emergency fund.

Well my circumstances are kind of special (I'm a special person :D ). I'm still living at home with teh parrents so I haven't spent thousands of dollars over the past 7 months even though I don't have a job. And I do have savings, still about 50,000 from my job.

But yeah that's still not a bad idea, I've probably spent more than that on other things like eating out and the like.

Spend it on something nice for yourself. You have a nice amount in savings already. :)

It means they extorted it from you under penalty of fines and imprisonment only to return it to you later with nothing for your trouble and you're supposed to like it.

I don't want to get into that mentality too much. But yeah I'm thinking of it. But not till I get another job. I would feel to guilty otherwise. Thing is it's getting hard to think of things I don't already have. I bought lots of stuff when I was working.

Move out of your parents' house.

Believe me it's high on my list of personal improvement goals. I've got about 5 super important to do items and it's up there believe me. But I'm not moving out on a 1500 tax return and I'm not going to touch my savings to do it either. Even if I get another job it will likely pay much less than $20 at the moment so even then I'll have to think carefully about how to move out as I also want to go back to university in the long run. Don't want to get stuck in some dump living pay check to pay check JUST so I can say I moved out.

I think it would be a nice gesture if you offered the $1500 to your parents for rent and other expenses they've spent on you. They might not take it, but it would make your parents feel special.

I've offered to pay them more than that in the past but they absolutely REFUSED to take it. My mother doesn't even want me to move out. My father understands but doesn't really care either.

1/2 Chinese family.

Not bad considering my taxable income was under $3000 and I paid $0 in income taxes...

Making Work Pay credit and Earned Income Credit for the win...:p

(I deserve to get SOMETHING for having supported my 3 grandkids all dammed year)():)

Yeah #1 should be getting a secure job, THEN once it's really looking good and you're out of probation period, consider moving out. There's really no point in rushing to move out if you're not financially able to. I actually worked for 1-2 years full time and stayed at my parents until I got enough money for a house. It was well worth the wait. It's actually nice when you hit a point where all your spare money is actually yours to do what you want with. I'm not quite there yet, but will be there by end of summer, I think. One more loan to pay, and it's 0% interest.

Since you have such a nice amount in your savings you should be able to buy with a decent down payment and still have enough for other upfront costs like any renovations that are musts, and even fun/non required things like a TV.

Hay don't think I don't feel guilty, I'm 27 after all, sometimes but like I said above my mother is the traditional chinese type and my father well he just doesn't really care one way or the other. I've offered to pay rent, food etc, won't hear anything of it.

BTW what are you doing with the 1400? Savings, Bills, Toys, Hookers and Blow?

Yeah, I know...it's fairly common in the Ornamental community for adult children to live with their parents. I don't get it myself, but whatever works for youse.

My wife has a L-O-N-G list of things we can use the $1400 for...probably about $6000 long...:p
Now it's a matter of prioritizing.

In other words you didn't actually get any return, she got it. And you will never know where it went? ;):D

Actually the main living area was done professionally and with help. I only did small things here and there like electrical, some drywalling, and my mom and sister actually helped a lot too with painting mostly. I thought of doing more of the work myself but I just wanted it done fast.

I do plan to redo the whole basement myself though. I demolished the existing all myself as it was full of mold and had a funny smell so decided to just start it from scratch. I want to make a killer home theater setup as well as a server room. Later on a second bathroom.

Then there's the garage, that's a whole project on it's own.
