Nice 10-26mm lens?

somewhere below the Cannon lens for less zoom.

dad would like a "wideangle" lens, but i dont think he really would use it, but would use a 10-30 or so lens more as it will allow for closer shots that arent as zoomed in feeling.

any suggestions? im not looking for "the god" among men of lens, just a nice one.

I've been browsing the DPreview Canon Lens forums and this topic comes up fairly regularly there but I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. I'm looking for a good wideangle lense to use mostly indoors for shooting pics of an infant (on the way). Not sure if I should by a $3-400+ for a fixed wideangle lens (At F1.8 or so) or spend the money on a flash like the 420ex and use the kit lens.

I've got the 50MM 1.8 lens which is great but I can't back far enough away for some shots.

not sure if you will find something in the 10-22 zoom range for much less than 400-600$$

can makes a 10-22 lens w/ autofocus and what not, but it's $$

i picked up a russian made "zenitar" fisheye lens off ebay for my drebel for about $100. it's a prime lens @ 16mm (not a zoom) and it is manual focus.

but it does the job, especially since i dont use a fisheye very often at all.

you might want to go to dpreview.com and search for "fisheye" in the 300D forum and you'll find quite a few recommendations for inexpensive wideangles (mostly primes)

Why do you keep saying 10-26mm? There is no such thing as a 10-26mm zoom lens for a Canon Mount. Good luck finding a cheap prime wide.

A true wide angle lens is going to be expensive. Your best bet is the Sigma I mentioned, which will have a 20-32mm FOV on a 1.6x crop body.

im just mentioning the range that would be nice. not a specific lens.

we have the Sigma 80-300mm lens which is quite nice, im still trying to learn it more.

i just dont know if my dad would want to spend $500 on the lens, i dont think he has the money.

A friend bought the 16-35 F2.8 L and that cost ~ £1k!

Wide angle fast lenses are NOT CHEAP.

Then your dad isn't going to get a wide angle lens. It's as simple as that... 😛

2.) Tell your dad to save his money
3.) Pick lens and buy
4.) ...
5.) NO PROFIT! You're dad will be broke again

You can get them cheaper 2nd hand.

~£400-650 ish.

The biggest killer on the price is the F! Difference between an F4 and a F2.8 is usually 2x the price! INSANE. Very pricey hobby quickly with the lenses out there.

Mike, how much is your dad willing to spend?

There's a Tokina 19-35mm that's called the "plastic fantastic" for under $200. Anything below 20mm and you're looking at something like a Sigma 10-20mm, Tokina 12-24mm, Canon 10-22mm, etc, and all those are at least $400 new, lower used if you find one on FredMiranda's buy/sell forums.

Does your dad want to own a wideangle lens? If he only needs to use it for the funeral I have the Sigma 10-20mm that I could loan him. Just make sure he takes good care of it and he pays shipping both ways.

If it's an EF-S mount, he could get a 18-55mm kit lens and a wider image than the plastic fantastic for hardly nothing.

I'm thinking he already has a kit lens and isn't satisfied with the quality of it.
