NIC causing 4Mbps cap?

Hey guys,

I'm on a Inspiron 8600 laptop here at work and getting 12-30Mbps speeds down on the 'net, but on an older Inspiron 4000 with a Netgear PCMCIA 10/100 card (in auto mode) I only get about 4-5Mbps max on the SAME cable.

I've checked the RWIN/MTU settings and everything seems to config'd right.

Does anyone know what might cause this? Would a 1.7 Pentium M really make that big of a difference between a 700MHz PIII? I'm thinking not...

Both are on XP and I'm wondering what would cause such a change in networking performance. I don't need this fixed necessarily, just opinions on different variables that might affect this.
