Good for you. It just seems like a lame reason to root for a team. I'd say at least 50% of the players in the NHL are from Canada. Why is it OK to root against them?

Ottawa is basically Team Europe with Hossa, Havlat, Alfredsson, Varada, Bonk, Chara, and Arvedsson.

The only (unbiased) view i have on this, is that Canadians tend to cheer for Canadian teams because that is where hockey was born, and the teams there keep getting taken away mainly because of the inability to pay the big name players in American currency. I think it is more a pride thing than anything for Canadians (tell me if i am wrong, Canadians).

Look at Ottawa, a team looking to sell the team becaue of possible bankruptcy (or they actually have filed, haven't they?). I can understand the loyalty to any team that resides in Canada, but the bandwagoners get a little old sometimes.

Bingo! Plus, it gets worse when Americans keep reminding us that a Canadian team hasn't won a cup is years. So, this is partly your fault! 😉

I personally want to see Anaheim win it all now, since they were responsible for Detroit's demise.

It is hard to root against either of the Western teams though.

And what I don't want to hear is all of these Canuck / Toronto / etc fans talk about how they want to see Ottawa win it all because they are in Canada.

I hope Ottawa win cause I'm Canadian. 😛😀

Agreed - I see Canada thinking that the U.S is stealing their game, which may bring on a fair bit of Canadian enthusiasm toward the Canadian teams regardless of whether they root for them or not. Or maybe its more of a "take out the big brother" type of an idea.

It's YOUR guys fault! You should have never let your players come to the US and play. 😀

JK! 😀

I think it was Montreal in 1993. Wasn't it?

ya it was, before that, between 84-90, a canadian team won every year.

Yup

Edmonton in 84, 85, 87, 88, 90

Montreal in 86

Calgary in 89

Exactly. That would be like me, as a Red Wings fan, saying "I sure hope Colorado wins the cup this year. I just want a team with US players to win it."

Being a Detroiter, I was totally pissed that the wings lost... I'm thinking if Fischer was back he woulda helped a lot... Also, I was pissed they never played legace... especially after that soft goal a couple minutes into game 3... granted its not like Cujo did bad, heck i used to be a huge Cujo fan, it's just that I think the best backup goalie in the league should have had a chance to strut his stuff in the playoffs. I am a huge cujo fan, AS LONG AS HE'S A MAPLE LEAF... I'm sorry, but the first time we went against the avs in the reg. season this year, and Cujo told the media before the game that there was no possibility of him fighting Roy showed that he definately doesn't have the Detroit spirit in him lol. Don't get me wrong, Cujo is a tough dude, heck he played the playoffs last year with a broken hand... but he should have inherited the hatred towards the wannabe statue of liberty... err... my bad... Precious Roy....

Following Ottawa since day 1 this season, It's hard for me to say this, but NJ is gonna win the cup. It's either going to be NJ or Minnesota... Giguere is going to crack... I have a feeling that they are going to get a bad bounce scored on them, and the flood gates will open...

And Ottawa, well, Ottawa completely owns this year, and they are playing like they have to earn the right to play in their town (cuz they are), but I honestly think NJ will win. Can't explain why, I think it might have Brodeur as a big factor tho.

Predictions: Minnesota in 5, NJ in 6, then NJ in 5...

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to add the fact that Kariya is gonna get caught diving, and minnesota is gonna take advantage of it... geez i hate Kariya... Can't wait till next year when they put him on the top of the new "dive list"

geez some of you guys...it was a rhetorical question...to get under the skin of SSP. I knew it was Montreal in 1993.

😛
