NHL players at or below 5'9"?

I think my favorite player is gonna have to be Martin St. Louis of Tampa Bay. I realized he was leading the league in points, but he is also 5'9. This makes me feel better about being my height (5'9 also) 🙂

Go Tampa!

Fleury is awesome if you need to score drugs, or need someone with ID to score booze or get in a fight at a strip club in Columbus, OH. Other than that he is an over rated short hockey player who doesn't belong back in the NHL!

^ LOL.

He could've retired as a great feisty little guy who accomplished so much throughout his career. Instead... an addict is what we'll remember him as.

And yes, as much as I hate him as a Caps fan, St. Louis is a great player with good 1-on-1 moves. His contract is up though.

My two faves:

Cliff Ronning, Isles, is 5' 8". Can skate around a dime and make you think he's going the other way.
Steve Sullivan, Preds, is 5' 8". Great all-around player.

The ones I think of off the top of my head have been mentioned:

Fluery (?)
St.Loius (5'9")
Gionta (5'7")
Domi (listed at 5'10" though and still everyone's favorite thug)

I remember seeing a thing on tv about how in the 'official' statistics, most short players lie about their height. For example, there are 3 guys on the wings who say they are 5'10", but they put them back to back and they differed by about 4". I don't doubt that a lot of guys lie about their height/weight, because you see a guy like Jiri Fischer who is supposed to be 6'2" or 6'3" but he looks huge compared to most guys in the league. Being 6'3" myself, I find it hard to believe that I would be that much taller than most of the guys on the ice.

tie domi is really short. i think he's 5'10 with skates cause i met him and he was slightly shorter than i was (and im 5'10). i think i could take him...

How are they at checking bigger guys?

Not great at body checking bigger guys, they can still disrupt them with the stick. But a guy like St.Loius is not going to go head to head with a power foward like Bertuzzi (6'3" 245) or Tkachuk (6'2" 235). Domi actually does quite well when fighting even against bigger guys. The big guys try to get a couple of big hits in, but Domi gets inside and starts pounding away like a jackhammer. Did I mention that Domi is a thug?

P.S. I would like to see Gionta (5'7" 175) check Zdeno Chara (6'9" 260)
