The best news I've heard all month... Now hopefully they don't change the rules to the point of screwing up the game.

saw today that one possible rule change would be to include 20 teams in playoffs (up from 16 now), add another round of playoffs in which the 1st round is best of 3...

WTF???

Good, the Rangers might actually make it!!

CRAP! I have *LOVED* Sportscenter w/o hockey on it :(

Only thing better would be if the NBA was destroyed...

so for the majority of the year there would be baseball and...

yeah, that sounds just fantastic

WTF you forgot football and golf....

football is played for like three weeks in the fall hence the phrase "the majority of the year" excludes football. and golf? yeah.

This is unfortunate. I like the way it is now, without NHL news and games taking up programming time. I still wish someone would shut down the WNBA.

oh please, where did the NHL take up programming time or news time ? Sportscenter took less than 5 minutes on it when the NHL was in full swing. ESPN or ABC showed 1 game a week at most. Besides, the NHL doesn't have a television contract for weekly games anymore.

I guess it's going back to being a niche sport. I really don't care. I'm sick of all the whining about it from non hockey fans. If they're not already a fan, it's not likely they will ever be. It's just easier this way.

i don't get the hockey bashing, it's one thing to say "i dont care" but to say "hrmm i wish it never came back so i can watch more of abc's high quality primetime lineup - or not have to deal with 4 minutes of highlights at night" :(

I'm glad hockey's backand i hope this time around, they don't f#% things up.

Yeahhhhh Hockey is Back....
Now when the league relaunches in the fall, it will do so with a brand new salary structure that keeps high-spending teams such as Toronto, Philadelphia and the New York Rangers in line.

Indeed.

Lazy american's I suppose, I love how a lot of people try to pass baseball off as a physically demanding sport. More overweight, tobacco spitting, overpaid jerkoff's then any other sport thats for sure. And the 'roids thing makes it all even worse.

I'm a baseball fan to an extent (just what the Mets are doing) but the biggest crock is a pitcher appearing once every 5 days and getting paid more than regular players. Overpaid everything is right but the economics are different... there's tons of fannies in the seats for a lot of games. God knows why...

Maybe it's just easier to watch with a beer and 5 hotdogs and a burger... cause usually there's nothing going on.

Damn. I was hoping the NHL would just die completely. And that MLB would be right behind it...

Now something beside overpaid egotistical boys on TV (aka NBA) who can not live up to their potential!

Oops - that accounts for all professional sports.

Prance around on ice, huh? Hockey players are far tougher, and are paid less/will be paid a lot less than baseball and basketball players. I bet if your pansy ass was put on an NHL rink you'd be laid out in less than a minute.
