Anyone thinking of buying this? Downloading the PS3 demo right now....the xbox360 version looked very good.
 
Dynasty mode sounds great, also you can play any of the 60 CHL teams.

* Broken sticks and the ability to retain control of a stick-less player. The player will be able to kick or grab the puck, and teammates may offer their own stick as a replacement. Alternatively, the player may return to the bench for another stick.[9]
* A new physics-based engine, unlike the previous engine, which was animation-based. This ensures that each bodycheck is unique, adding to the realism of the game.[9]
* A revamped faceoff system, which introduces the ability to switch between standard or reversed grips, and to push or block the faceoff opponent. Timing will remain an important part of the faceoff process.[10]
* Changes to the passing system in which passes are now triggered at the release of the trigger button, instead of the initial pull. The longer the button is held, the stronger the pass will be.[10]
* An all new Hit Stick feature has been added. This allows players to control the location of their hit on the opposing player. Whether a player gets hit high or low, each hit will have a different outcome, including penalties and injuries.[11]
* In the new Ultimate Team mode, the players receives a pack of cards and uses them as their team and to build up their own team and make it the best they can.[12]
* A new control button, the Hustle Button, is similar to the speed burst button of previous NHL games, but now, in NHL 11, players can use the hustle button if they're racing for the puck, to stop the icing or to get the breakaway.[13]

Amazing how EA generally puts out a great hockey game every year whereas Madden is the very definition of stagnant, isn't it? Oh wait -- that's what competition will do for you!
 
Everything new sounds awesome except the change in passing. I pass a lot, and while it may not be realistic I like passing fast. Won't be able to do that if they only pass at release.
 
I think you can still fast passing, it just will be more touch passing. Holding the button seems like it will be a "charge" type and you will really slam the pass in. I am waiting for Fifa 11, but I might grab this one.
 
It does look good, but I think I am going to pass on it for now. I bought NHL 09 and have only played 40 or 50 games of it and I think I need to play with that a little more. If there were an AT NHL league, I might reconsider though. 🙂
 
Not sure how well 5v5 will be, i'd hate to have to play the goalie.....but a career mode that starts in OHL/WHL/QMJHL and ends in the hall of fame sounds interesting...soo much depth to their dynasty mode is what makes me want to buy it...

How is the learning curve on these games? I haven't played an NHL game since NHL 05. Sounds like the controls are totally different now...

The isn't much of a learning curve I'd say. The last real NHL game I played for any prolonged period of time was NHL Hitz (Blitz type of game) and that was years ago. I picked it up fairly easy. If you understand the hockey ruleset and how to press, it isn't very hard to pick up. Now, I might not be the best, but I didn't have so many mess ups that I suffered for them.

The controls actually work pretty well.
 
BTW if a league is starting up, would it be for PS3 or Xbox360? I have both, so either doesn't matter to me, but I suppose it might for some people.
 
downloaded the demo last night, will probably get a chance to play on the weekend.

i got dibs on the Oilers if we start a league 😛
 
I'm queuing up the demo now based on the statements above. I've never played NHL online, but I'd be interested in trying. I want the Habs, if I can find this for $39.99, like I was able to for NCAA 11.
 
Guys, this looks promising and might be the best response I've seen for a league since our Madden league this year.

I have both 360 and PS3. I'd honestly prefer to play on the PS3 but in the end, I will buy it for whatever platform the league is on. If we can get firm committment on a league, I will buy it and join.

Anyhoo, I finally got around to playing the NHL 11 demo today and the passing thing is really a bother to me. I'm not really sure if I'll buy it at release or not... guess it kind of depends on when the league starts. I also have a PS3 but I prefer the 360 controller and I have other friends that would buy NHL11 that are all on the 360, so that's probably what I'll go for.

Yeah, I had it changed a couple of weeks ago. I've been posting quite a bit lately and had some privacy concerns.

Downloading it now. I think it would be cool if we could get a league going with it, especially if I can find it for $39.95. 🙂
