NFSU2 - Problem, or is it just like this?

Yes, well, I played NFSU2 for about 10 minutes, but I found that the graphics were somewhat disappointing: The car models are sharp, but the cityscape seems to be extremely pixelized, unclear (not sharp, like NFSU1). I have all graphics settings turned to maximum at 800x600, and I am getting this 'pixelization' even in the road right underneath my car. I havn't tried 1024x768, but will try shortly.

Is the game just like this, or is it something on my end?

I have the 1.1 patch, and am running an 9800XT at stock speeds on Catalyst 4.11 (updated today).

Huh, you would expect EA to make the graphics at least as good as the predecessor. I am still in disbelief over how crappy it looks; I would really like to believe it has something to do with the Radeon: it seems to be some sort of texture problem. It's just a pain to look at right now.

I like the increased variety of cars and parts, but, the game would have been better than the original if it retained or improved upon the graphics of the original.

Well, I guess I'll be playing HL2.

Bump.

Anyone else have this "issue"? I am very suspicious, since I've heard nothing but praise about this game's graphics, except for us two.

my specs: 9800Pro / Barton 3200+ / 512MB memory

taken at 800x600 res and less detail (there was jpg compression too)

taken at 1280x1024 res and more detail (I shrunk the image after)... you can even see the smoke and tiremarks resulting from a burnout.

I don't think there's pixelation... it's more like the textures they used aren't the best. I suppose it's because of the frequent rate which it would change (a car moving along at 150mph+) would destroy fps so they opted to do it this way.

Are your graphics actually worse ?

huge sponsors I guess. Goes along with the SMS system the game uses. You should see the Best Buy and Burger Kings throughout the city too... looks just like the real buildings down to the architecture. Pretty cool/funny if you ask me.

I'll have to get back to you on that one. Maybe I'll run the game again tomorrow.

In your opinion, are the graphics in NFSU2 better, worse or about the same as NFSU1? This is about the only barometer I can easily comprehend (because NFSU1 was quite dazzeling).

Do you use an nVidia card?

800x600 on a Ti500 and i'm not complaining. i think the graphics are fine for the scope of the entire game. I mean, it has to render so many different things at once. i just don't think there's much to complain about.

the advertising is a bit rampant though. overall i still very much like this game.

The fun factor has definitely increased from NFSU1. The turns aren't as tight and impossible - the "city" is so broad that it allows for a lot of free reign and wider turns... hell it takes almost 3 real minutes to get from one end of the city to the other. The other noticeable difference is the opponents don't "cheat"... which takes away a lot of frustration. I'm in the middle of stage 3 (or 4?) and it's getting increasingly harder... and I've only got the G35 @ 393hp right now and there are cars that can do way better. I just spent the last 15 minutes doing the same drag race over and over because it's so damn tough (fun/challenging) now. I think the flow is good and the gameplay is better than the original.

Graphics-wise, I didn't have this ATI 9800 Pro when NFSU1 was around so I really can't judge fairly... I think "rendering so many things at once" has a lot to do with the lower res textures... if it's bearable, try not to let that ruin the gameplay experience... it's a good racer.

I had the exact same problem with my card the first time I played the game, but after increasing the details AND restarting, the textures became smooth and now I have no complaint about graphics. I think it's a bug in the game.
When I saw screenshots of the game before buying it I thought it looked like UND 1, but after playing the game and having a first hand experience I say it's looks DEFINATELY better, they added many effects such as Depth of Field, and Blight and AutoContrast settings that add so much realism to the game, the crowds look realistic and cards lights reflect on them. The motion blur has been decreased, and it's almost only noticable when using Nitrous, which is good IMO because UND 1 had too much motion blur that I wasn't able to see the street. There are also other graphics effects that I don't remember ATM. I just have a single problem that I posted in another thread, I hope someone would find the answer for it.
The game is 10x more fun than it's predecessor.

Where do you do body mods in the game ? My stupid messages keep beeping about me being able to buy stuff at the body shop, but the only shops that show up on my are the performance ones and car lots.

haha that drove me nuts for a few hours. I kept going from one to another thinking that was it but no dice. You have to find them. Find the bright blue lights outside buildings... those are the body shops. Compare the current bright yellow light outside the car specialty shop or the bright red light outside the paint shop and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Once you find them and enter, they will then appear on your map. I've only managed to find 2 so far... the 2nd one is in coal harbor so if that's not unlocked for you yet, you won't find it. The 1st one is behind a cafe/coffee shop... look for the light!

Well, the textures look fine now. I'm running at 1280x1024 and everything runs pretty and smooth (chugs when there is a lot of smoke, though). And, I now agree, it looks about the same as NFSU1.

Well, I've gotten up to the part in the game where you beat the second series of League races. I've done that, but I havn't got anything new to de (?). Do I have to take all the cars they give me to take? What should I do to advance?

I had been using the Corolla up till this point (the car is a good car, and it also looks good, both in stock form and in upgraded form *cough*), but I then got the RSX (which, surprisingly, I found to be worse with the same level upgrades), thinking that might trigger advancement, but no dice. Any ideas?

I'll post screenshots as I take them.

PrayForDeath:

I had the same issue when I first installed the game (showed only light sources, screen was mostly pitch black). I updated my ATI drivers to 4.11, and everything worked fine (well, except for the pixelization, which went away per your instructions).

I now run 8x AA and 16x AS without hiccups (well, unless there is a ton of smoke) at 1280x1024; I have not tried higher resolutions; it looks good enough as it is.

In order to advance, you should be completing every available race on your map.. the ones that look like an O. By then, you will have enough bank to do [mostly] all upgrades available at that level ... which is what the developers wanted for you. Besides, you will desperately need these upgrades to win races as the game gets harder and harder so they are getting you accustomed to it.

Have you done the sponsor thing already ? You have to finish that in addition.

BTW, fix your link - it needs the proper referrer: http://www.gamefaqs.com/comput...oswin/game/920469.html

As far as I know, I have completed everything on the map. Nothing happens. I have all the level 1 performance parts.

You're missing the point of the game.

Rice your car out until it looks like a reject from the Fast and the Furious. Because as we all know, it's not the performance that matters, it's how farty the exhaust is or how many layers of vinyl you added.

Seriously. You needed a certain level of useless crap on your car to progress in the original - I expect the sequel to be the same.

you got something seriously wrong with your set up..
NFSU2 BLOWS NSFU away in grafics..
everything has light sourcign and advanced DX9.0c support...

mine with a 6800GT is GORGEOUS... it looks like night time in real life its sharp detailed and not pixelated at all..
1600x1280 16x AS 8x AA with everything maxed...
70 FPS and its photorealistic...
check the PC screen shots on the site.. thats what its supposed to look like..

yes best buy cingular and many others payed to be in the game.. all the billboards are for real products...

you must do street (outruns) and mod your cars appearance to advance to the next area....

BTW you can make a very classy looking car with the mods they offer in 2... my cars all look the same i found a very cool combo that makes my car look like a black base coat with red/white/yellow splash paint looks like one of the more elabroate Nascar paint jobs... i need to get Screenshots as im 90% completle in game with all cars and mods unlcoked...

Level 8 RX7 twin Turbo pushing 650 hp
level 8 Supra Turbo 700 hp
level 8 Mustang GT pushing 780 hp
level 8 Eclipse 600 hp
Miata level 10 600 hp

all these cars have level 3 in everything miata has all the mods to move the game forward.. hydrolics..uniques stereo composite body suiicide doors and split hood.

Merc:

Good point; I will throw as much crap as I can onto my car, and see what happens. Maybe the requirement is to get it above three stars.

CVSin:

Maybe if had taken the time to read the rest of the thread, you would've figured out it was a problem (pertaining to ATI cards) that was easily fixable by restarting the game.

I wouldn't say NFSU2 blows NFSU away in graphics. I havn't played the original in a while, and the graphics aren't astounding enough that playing NFSU2 makes me think "wow, this is much better than NFSU."

Maybe if I loaded up NFSU and then played NFSU2, I'd say, "Yeah, NFSU2 is better," but, my point it it isn't so great that you can just look at it and say "Much better than NFSU1."

Yeah, you're right, I'll do some outruns. Nice cars.

The HUD in that screenie is HUGE! Can you make is smaller if you want?

Not as far as I can see... and you don't need it smaller... all the action you come across is in the middle of the screen anyway. The only reason you would want to see the rest of the screen is for aesthetics.
