NFS: PU on WinXP

I used to play NFS: Porsche Unleashed on WinXP. I got around the loading issue by deleting the gimme.dll file and setting Compatibilty for the 2 EXEs to Win2k. Then I got a new HDD and reinstalled WinXP and the game.
Now, when I create a new player profile in NFS, it creates it without the player icon, and subsequently, as soon as I click 'RACE', it displays the Loading screen and immediately exits to Windows. Any ideas? Thanks.
