NFS Carbon for PC demo out

Not only is it the same demo as the 360 version but it performs as badly. I may not have the most high end pc out there (Opteron 165, 2gig ram, Radeon x1800xt) but this game on max settings with 4x AA @ 1280x1024 runs like a dog. There are no widescreen resolutions (typical EA) so I cant put 1280x720 or higher and I get fps in the TEENS with 4xAA and in the 20's to low 30's with it off. The motion blur is overdone and it helps taking it off but I don't care for the feel of the game.

ugh, its alright. i used to be able to run 1280x1024 medium settings on most wanted, now i cant even run 1280x1024, so i had to drop down to 1024x768. (this is my 6600GT btw)

i will try it on my htpc rig (see my sig) and will let you know how it goes. i doubt it will be that much better.

ran fine on my rig at 1280x1024 max settings. The game itself doesnt feel as good as most wanted did. I can tell those canyon races would get very annoying

EA seems to have a cycle with the current NFS games.
NFS:U was good IMO.
NFS:U2 was pretty poor
NFS:MW was most excellent
NFS:C seems a little poor.

So your saying we will have to wait till this time next year to get another good NFS? 😀 😀

Yup 🙁
But at least they keep cranking them out once a year 😀

I'm using 82.12's on a 7800GT and my performance is alright.

I am using the same settings as you, the game is slow on my Intel 3.0 with x1600 and 1g ram

NFS has always been an intensive game.

NFS U2
Required a 9800Pro/6600GT to run at 10x7 MAX no AA for smooth performance

NFS MW
Required a 6800GT/7600GT to run at 10x7 MAX no AA for smooth performance

NFS C
Will require a 7800GT/7900GT/X1800XL/X1800XT to run at 10x7 MAX no AA for smooth performance
If you want to play the game at 12x10 MAX no AA you will need at the very very least a 1900xt/xtx class card and maybe even 1950XTX.

NFS never runs on 12x10 on single GPU configs of the previous generation and even if it does, it just about barely does.

Quite the contrary.

I could run it at max detail, except shadows with 2x AA 4x AF with my old X800 SE with smooth frame rate.

Hope Carbon runs fine with my 7900 GT.

And hopefully the retail version will be better optimized than the demo.

I have heard all the crap regarding NFS running at 12x10 etc on mainstream hardware, I have tried it and only substandard performance is what you get, some people find it ok but most decent people don't.

On a 7900GT you will be finet at 10x7 max no AA, no doubt about that.

what do you define as a smooth frame rate?

ya rly 😛

It does run pretty nicely on my computer though, even in Vista RC2 (using the stock ATI drivers). Of course I'm limited to 1280x1024 since widescreen is apparently still a foreign concept to EA, even in late 2006...

12x10, with AA and AF or without it? maxed out settings or nearly maxed out settings?

With the maximum amount of AF and AA (and all other settings) that the game allows you to set (4xAA, level of AF is unspecified in the game other than just "Anisotropic").

I couldn't even figure out how to change the resolution and graphics settings.

The options are arranged vertically rather than horizontally so you have to hit the down key on the options menu to change things. It took me a bit to figure it out too so don't feel bad. 🙂
