NForce4 Chipset Pretty hot

I have the chaintech NForce4, which has worked really well for me, but I have noticed that the passive northbridge cooler gets really really hot. Right now I have the multiplier at 2x, to help with the load, although im not sure how much it helps. I have the fsb at 300, but with the ram running at 240, so I think it should be able to handle that. Anyways, I have been thinking about water cooling, but probably wont do it for a while, and am looking for opinions on whether or not it will be safe for the summer.

Probably wont make to much of a difference by moving to active cooling.

It is a good thing the HS is hot. If it wasn't that would be bad, as the HS wouldn't be making proper contact with the northbridge.

Hah, this is true, but I am curious how hot the chip might be if the heatsink is hot enough to be uncomfortable to the touch. Maybe I am just not used to hot heasinks since my xp90 stays pretty cool even with my cpu at 1.65v.

Thanks for the input, and I hope youre right about it being fine. Any other opinions welcomed, and I have heard about some guy just putting a 40mm fan on there, which fixed his overheadting problems. I am thinking of doing the same, as next year I will also be going to school in singapore, which is a bit hotter than the Northwest.

Yeah I have enough case fans, I have 2 120mm fans pushing a decent amount of air, and its below 30c in most places in the case.

Im just kinda worried, because I plan to get a Venice and go up to around 310fsb, but the heat on this sucker makes me afraid, it actually is too hot to hold my finger on it after gaming for more than a few seconds.

How hot does metal need to be to be painful?? I dont have an accurate thermometer, so I really dont know how hot its getting.

It should be ok. I have a Zalman NB47J on my A8N SLI Deluxe motherboard since the fan itself crapped out on me.
