nForce4-4X??

I was looking into buying a socket 754 board with pci ExpressX16 capability. Just for giggles and grins before making the jump to socket 939. I noticed that all the chipsets on these boards say "nForce4-4X" is this different from the normal nForce4??
 
its not alls that means is its a standard nforce4 chipset with an additional pci-e 4x slot (along with the 16x and the 1x slots for pci-e peripheral's),.....s939's are the same chipset

the video pci-e slot is 16x not 4x if thats what you were worried about,... different slot altogether
 
No the 4x means limited to a 4x multiplier for the HTT bus instead of a 5x multi. On Socket 754 systems, 4x is standard, while on socket 939 it is 5x (thats why it is 1.6GB buss for socket 754 and 2GB bus for socket 939).

And the speed is not 1600 or 2000MHz.. it is 800 or 1000 MHz. See, it is not because you can drive 65 MP/h on both direction of the hyghway that you can say that you are going to 135 MP/h.. The HTT speed is 200MHz to and from. This is stupid marketing trick to impress with big number. The bigger is the better, unless you know your stuff.
 
The 4x is the max HTT multiplier - which gives you 800 MHz as required for socket-754. The "normal" NF4 lets you do 5x, which is useless on this platform.

I don't plan to hit incoming cars thou ...

DATA bits are much more better drivers... but succomb easily to corruption ...
