nForce2 RAM: better with 1 or 2 sticks of DDR?

I'll be using the ASUS board, a Barton 2600+ and Crucial PC2700 DDR333 for 512MB. Should I use one 512MB stick or two 256MB sticks? Just thinking about that TwinBank or whatever stuff.

Yes 2 sticks of 2700 and I would think about 512MB ea if you into Vid/Photo/Editing and/or making DVD's

i'm a newbie, so you might want to look into this a little more
.
i'm planning on getting an nForce2 board also, and from what i have read on this message board, it is generally agreed that 2 sticks is better than one, just so that you can take advantage of the dual channel DDR of the boards where supposedly the processing is optimized to use the two sticks in conjuction. i.e., 2x256 is better than 512.

BUT according to a lot of people here and the articles i have read, the increase is minimal unless you use onboard graphics (they all quoted some really small percentage). so... one 512MB might be a good idea if you have the oney to upgrade to 2x512 later when prices (might) drop a little more. however, you might want to search the forum a little more before making your decision.

these are the posts i have bookmarked. there might be more onnForce2 and memory

cowsclaw...yes it is limited do to the AMD's max bandwith @ 2100MB/s so more benefit is seen when OCing

Ok ok! That's what I thought, just checking folks. :D

StattlichPassat you know better ...you've been around and can search Google as well as us all ;)

Yes yes... I just succumbed to the lazy luxury of just asking here though. ;) If I was originally asking about the reason for 2 sticks, I would have searched, but that reason for using 2 sticks didn't come up until halfway through the thread. Ah well- thanks anyway to all. I appreciate it.

At the price they're asking for 512Mb PC2700 Crucial, I'd recommend getting two of them :D $83.99 last I checked, and there is an additional 5%-off coupon code out there too. Or there's always Newegg (no sales tax for me).

Got an upgrade working in my head right now so I ordered 2x512's of PC2700 Crucial while they are fairly cheap. Lifetime warranty, so if they don't work when I finally do my upgrade I'll send them back. I also checked the part number against the boards I am considering and they all take the same one. Do I really need a gig of memory? Not today, but since this is an upgrade in progress I wanted to be safe. I should be okay until I need to go beyond 333, which will be a while.

mechBgon- this rig is for a potential client who really doesn't need a gig of RAM, so I'll probably just be ordering the two 256MB 333 sticks.

texun- Good planning- if it gets much cheaper, I may be doing the same!
