nforce2 onboard audio or santa cruz?

Hey guys.. I just upgraded my motherboard to an nForce2 Abit NFS-7.. From what I hear it has pretty good sound quality... I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz laying around and was wondering what would be better. I listen to music and play games.. I either use headphones or have my 2 speakers w/ subwoofer on. (i go through a reciever).

thanks.

Santa Cruz is the same (in terms of audio reproduction q) as the nForce's APU, though is much slower, and requires additional drivers. Apu all the way.

I took out my SC after I found out you can't use the gameport on the SC with a nForce2 (nice. Jerks. Oh, forgot it's a feature, not a bug) Overall the sound quality through the onboard is fine, for mp3 listening through computer speakers it's hard to tell a difference. Sounds in games are more distinct, overly so at first, but now that I'm used to it I don't mind it.

For games, either. For music the SC is going to be more accurate, though a lot of people like a harsher sound thinking it's somehow cleaner. Up to your ears, either is worlds ahead of a Sound Blaster 8 bit. 🙂
