nForce2 motherboards - when can we expect them? I really, really need one.

I need to build a new rig for my sister for school, and I really want to use an AMD/ nForce combo, since that fits within my $400 budget. 🙂

When are these boards supposed to be out? I'm getting desparate 😱

For school usage, why not an Asus A7N266-VM? I just built a few for work and have 12 more planned. Pleased to see that the ones I got have two fan headers and came retail-boxed, so they included the S/PDIF outlet (not that my work users will need it). For doing actual work, it's plenty of system with an XP1800+. For gaming, add an AGP card of some kind and there you go. It'll even take an Alpha PAL8045 if you get the urge to make it extra-quiet.

get nforce1... nforce2 is gonna be very high performance and might be overkill for your sister's schoolwork...

neways nforce2 won't be worth it until hammer's are out so you'll have to wait a bit

Actually my sis does a little bit of Photoshop, and I was looking at the onboard GF4MX video since it is better than the GF2MX video on the nForce. 🙂

I guess I'll just have to use an nForce...

It may even be cheaper to buy an Nforce board and put in a GeForce4 MX (or Radeon). The NForce2 prices will probably be high in the beginning.

I've got one and I'm happy with it now that I've have worked out all the wrinkles except it's inability to acess the internet through my router. The integrated MAC controller would acess my home network but not the internet so I threw in a D-Link PCI LAN card and now all is well. I only had 1 256mb stick of Crucial2100DDR and 1ghz Morgan to put in it (3rd box) so the mem bandwidth is pretty poor, so I'd recommend an XP and 2 sticks of ram so you can run synchronously and take advantage of the Dual channel DDR, which should improve the MX cores performance as well. It does play DVDs perfect(excellent sound!) and the games I've tried, QIII, UT, and MOH:AA@1024x768 with low or medium settings are very playable.
