Nforce2 has no serial ports??

I read this on the Oct 1 nforce2 preview here on AT. Is it true that nforce2 MBs will have no serial ports? I'm all for getting rid of legacy hardware, ie parallel ports, ISA slots, etc. but I have several devices that use my serial port! (x10 remote control IR unit, creative remote control for winamp, dvd, etc. and other stuff) I would still like to have 2 serial ports.

I'm sure the nforce2 boards will support serial ports, just find a manufature how puts them on.

Not much of a lose to be. I'm been building computers for 3 years now and have never had anything that uses serial port:Q

Only thing I have on serial port is my USR Courier v.Everything.....sure would hate to have to get rid of it...

Serial add on cards will become popular soon, Because of serial ATA HDDs. It will be supported, maybe just not installed by all MOBO Manufacturers. PCI serial cards are easy to find too.

All nforce2 boards will have serial port support - they just won't necessarily have the connector present on the I/O shield. You'll probably receive a bracket with the serial ports on it in the box. Just connect it to the appropriate motherboard headers and screw the plate into a spare slot.

Never buy a computer without legacy support. Our IT department is always pushing little non-legacy machines --"they will only be used for e-mail or Office". That is now, who knows what you might need in a month. The USB to ???? adapters don't always work. I have had to replace several new machines just to get a serial port. RRRRRRRRR.

With a couple of exceptions, chipsets never have had legacy ports beyond keyboard/mouse. That's what super-IO chips are there for. With SiS and VIA chipsets (that have kbd and ms ports builtin), there has long been the option of making legacy-free mainboards that don't have a SIO chip at all.
