nForce2 CPU Utilization: CD-Rom

arcenite

When I load something off the cd-rom or play a game that requires the cd-rom, everything gets a little jerky. I know there is a CPU Utilization patch for the nForce2 for XP, but I am running W2k. Is there anything I can do? Thanks 🙂

Bill

What drivers are you running. And the XP patch SHOULD work on W2k, but that is just a guess as they are both NT based.

I've tried to run it and it gave me an error saying wrong os... I am downloading the latest drivers off of nVidia now, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for your reply!

Might be a bad drive.
I have a DVD drive on IDE2 master on a non-nForce mobo and a CD-RW on IDE2 - slave, and the DVD has about 40% cpu use on cd benchmark, the cd-rw has about 10%, could be a poor drive causing the issues, if the patch doesn't help.

I tried updating the drivers and tried using the CD-RW as my read drive and still have the problem. To give you an example, when trying to install Serious Sam: Second Encounter, it goes good for a few seconds during the install, then it gets jerky.

What you can do is sell me W2K for a rightous price and get XP Pro 😛

I'm running win2k pro and i had this problem. Your drive is in PIO4 mode. Go to device manager --> ide/atapi controller and change it to UDMA mode

When i'm ripping my animes at ~fullspeed (14ishx) on my dvd rom I get no more than 8% cpu utilization
