My son is building a system for a co-worker using a Chaintech 7NIF2 mobo. 98SE loads and runs fine. When he tried to load 2K it goes through the entire installation process and jsut as the last of the files are copying from the CD to the hard-drive he gets an error message about corrupt files and the system crashes. This happens with a clean install and upgrading from 98SE.

Never seen anything like this one.

Are you sure it's not that the hard drive just picked right then to start dying?

Win 98SE is loaded on the PC and it runs fine. It is just Win2K for some reason.

Not many people report that kind of problem, and I haven't had it myself, so my guess is either the CD is bad/dirty/damaged or maybe there's an issue with the drive or cable. It could even be a power problem, if the system happens to kick everything into high gear at the same time towards the end, and the PSU can't hack it, but I doubt that would be as repeatable of a problem as it sounds to be.

I am hoping it is his 2K CD as the Win 98 Cd worked just fine.

If it is he will not be able to show his face in public for a week.

Hey, it's entirely possible that the original MS CD is flawed :D That does sometimes happen, ain't his fault...
