I'm getting my PC with Asus a8n-e motherboard tomorrow and 3700 San Diego. I had some questions about the built-in Nvidia firewall with this board.

1. Is the firewall enabled by default?
2. How can I disable the nvidia firewall safely (I have a router that i'd prefer to use)?
3. Does the firewall only become active when windows is installed, or is it configurable through the bios?
4. Does the firewall affect your clean install of windows xp? (some people say it corrupts it)?

No you have to install the nforce software utility that includes the Firewall.

Even if you installed the Firewall it can be disables in its preferences menu.

No.

I do not think so.

I installed for experimental purposes the nVidia Firewall and every thing works OK from Windows point of view the Firewall it self is Quirky so there is No point to use it.

I just uninstalled the Firewall and every thing seems to work OK.

I think you worry a little too much it is not really such a big deal.

However even if you use a Cable/DSL Router you should use a Software Firewall.

Why? Basic Protection for Broadband Internet Installation.

There is Free Good Stuff: Freeware Security suit for Internet Connection Protection.

Thanks for the help. I guess I do worry too much, especially when people post about constant BSODs and lockups. I absolutely hate those, havent had one in years, and dont want to have them with my new PC. Also, you said "I just uninstalled the Firewall and every thing seems to work OK." How did you do that? Did you have to remove the nforce software, or ist there a way to get rid of only the firewall. Maybe theres an option not to install the firewall period, but still the rest of the nforce software?
