Nothing is going to sound better than the SB Audigy 2. The quaility sound is outstanding, and you really note the difference when comparing to the soundstorm. Those who says that the audigy is not good is because they don't have one. Sorry!!

Sorry son, but nothing is going to sound better than Audigy 2 ZS, and probably you tested a LS vesion, the really have low quality converters, but not the ZS vesion. Besides i don´t think the audigy is such expensive, you can get it for 80 dollars or less, and considering ut is a PROFESIONAL audio card, the price is accurate. The only way of hating an audigy 2 is not having it. Regarding the soundstorm audio, it is pretty average. I just got my MSI nforce 3 motherboard and when i heard the soundstorm it really disappointed me.

That's not possible if you were using the digital output on the A7N8X. Analog does not use SoundStorm.

Quoting myself:

ADI (Analog Devices) 1980 or a Sound Blaster Live! Is the ADI chip software based or hardware? Which has lower CPU utilization and better sound quality?

Anyone?

But what about a choice between Nforce's Soundstorm and Audigy LS?? Is the Audigy worth the additional cost?

I am sure on the difference between EAX 4.0 and EAX Hardware Acceleration only

I love my soundstorm, have it hooked up to my Sony reciever through digi-out. Some of those Audigy 2 sound cards cost more than I spent on my mobo! (A78NX Deluxe)

now thats a LIE. just to list a few cards that blow audigy out of water :
chaintech av-710 (@ $23 shipped)
EMU-0404
EMU-1212M/1820
RME digi 96/8
RME Hammerfall
Hoontech DSP24
Audiotrak prodigy 7.1
Terratec Aureon 7.1
Terratec DMX6 fire
M-audio Revolution
M-audio audiophile 2496

the list goes on and on. audigy is popular cuz it is good for gaming, not for its sound quality. maybe its your winamp crippling your sound.

Depends what you're comparing it to. Just about any professional sound card will sound better than it - but they cost a ton of money. For games it's probably the best, or close to it. For music, the M-Audio Revolution and Turtle Beach Santa Cruz are two popular cards which are supposed to be better. Not that music sounds bad on it - it doesn't. At least, not to my noob ears :p

I'd like to ask a question that's related to this topic: what's the use of the DICE function on Soundstorm? Is being able to output anything via SPDIF the only advantage? With other cards such as the audigy, would you be able to output things that are not digitally encoded using the SPDIF port?

I got an Audigy2 and two of my friends followed suit and got one. We're all very happy with the sound, it's fantastic - esp on my Altec Lansing 641's. Only complaint is crappy driver support; they need to do what ATI did with Catalyst.
