NForce 4 Issue

I know some ppl have been having, this or a similar problem with the NForce boards, I have a Chaintech VNF 4 Ultra, and while using the interent, more specifically when D/Ling things, I bt alot, I get random BSODs given to me by the lovely nvnrm.sys. I can't update my NForce drivers, as when I do, I lose the ability to connect to the internet, and w/ the new drivers, when I try to connect, I BSOD. This is very annoying, I read somewhere, that this may be related to my firewall, I am using the Nvidia Firewall, but I just disabled it to see if this fixes it. Can anyone here lend a little hand or help me out...I am starting to go bald over this issue :)

Hmm that has not happened to me at all. I even used the Nvidia firewall for a bit and it never happened to me.

Strange.

yeah...I was reading random hardwar/software forums on the issue, and most stated that it happened to random boards...probably gonna call chaintech tomorrow, and see about an RMA maybe...

I recommend Kerio Personal Firewall v.2.XX

Or if you are more technically inclined, try Sygate PF. I used Sygate for over a year but I'm not that good with computers to fully utilize it.

Well I dunno if it is only Chaintech mobo's that are havint the issue. I read up on the 6.66 drivers and most people were having issues with BSOD with those drivers. Might not be your hardware.

I just bought an add in 100BaseT ethernet card because the onboard ethernet drivers for my nforce 3 were pure cr(a)p. It's easier than trying to fix nvidia's broken a(s)s drivers/hardware.

I think the uninstaller for your system is not removing all components of the NV firewall. Try using Driver Cleaner and removing all traces of the nVidia drivers. Then re-installing all the ones you need minus the IDE drivers and the firewall.

Youre far better off with a router or a proxy server (on value hardware) than a software firewall. They dont work, really.

ah....never thought about getting a new NIC, that sounds like a very proactive workaround...will def look into that one :)...thx
it's just so sad though, the onboard is gigabit....

And? If you don't have a Gigabit hub/switch, it doesn't really matter, and if you're broadband, Cable/DSL modems are 10Mb connections locked at the modem, so...
