I'm looking at possibly getting a new mobo.

The two new Asus boards appeal to me in particular. But, has anyone seen any reviews on either of these two new chipsets and how they compare?

The KT400a will not be out until next year. Best thing to do is wait another week so Evan can get his review of 5 nForce2 boards up.

So either get a new nForce2 board or the Epox KT400 board. Those are the 2 best bets I can see RIGHT NOW

A few reviews of the A78NX around the place. I have one and it is a real breath of fresh air compared to the tunnel visioned VIA boards.

Open GL performance on the KT400 boards is "broken".... under Direct 3D applications, with a Radeon 9700, the NF2 and kt400 are neck and neck, with the NF2 having a slight performance advantage. Under OpenGL, the NF2 pulls away 10-15% above the performance of the kt400, which is AMAZING. Plus, the nf2 is almost guarenteed to be Barton compatable when they come out in february or late january, whereas the kt400 more then likely won't be as that is probably one of the main issues that the kt400a will "fix".

Now, on the other hand, the Asus KT400 can unlock the throughbreds by themselves, which I *believe* the nf2 can't. So for overclocking you might be better off with the kt400.

Also, the nf2 has the ability to increase the memory speed of your system with 2 sticks of ddr installed. This is coming in KT400sa, but it doesn't currently have it. In some memory intensive benchmarks, this increased bandwith might be usefull, esspecially with a 333mhz fsb athlon.

the nf2 boards are *suppose* to allow you to break multipliers on unlocked cpus (tbred's mainly). i had it working on my asus once.. but i cannot seem to replicate it anymore :( That and no one has a damn defogger kit to buy!!!!

See, I ASSUMED that the nf2 board should allow it, but I haven't seen a single review saying that yet... whereas ALL kt400 boards mention it, except for the MSI board which for some reason doesn't do it... *shrug* I dunno, maybe a bios patch will allow this on all nf2 boards?

from ocworkbench review on Asus nforce2
Something you would like to know is that if you use a Tbred processor e.g. 2400+, you can change the multiplier without unlocking the processor. Check out the gallery for more information
