I believe you need two identically sized sticks of DDR ineach separate channel to enable dual channels on the NFORCE 2.

What I don't understand is the third ram slot. If you put ram in there(any size) is tehnforce 2 board still operating with dual channels, or does it revert to single channel?

the third ram slot that is separated from the cluster of 2, is the SECOND CHANNEL.

Youre supposed to put one stick in SLOT 1, and in order to enable DUALDDR, put another stick in SLOT 3.

Ive read that you get better performance if you put the first stick in Slot 1 and NOT Slot 2.

Im not sure if they need to be identical or not though...

You just need to put them in different banks. 1 & 3, 2 & 3, or all 3 ( where 2 sticks will be on the same controller ). I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you can use any size sticks @ any speed ( it'll just run at the slowest of the pair is you choose SPD ).

dont use 2 and 3 if youre using two sticks. lowers performance for some reason. use 1 and 3.

(unless of course you have every slot filled, then it doesnt matter)

The tests I've seen on nForce2 show the performance actually increasing with the addition of the third DIMM.

Any one see a review that shows how much extra performance you get when using a 333mhz fsb cpu on 266mem bus vs 266 dual ddr mem bus?
I'm interested in its asynch operation performance as well as how a dual ddr 266 mem bus compares witha single 333 mem bus on a 333fsb cpu.

Tom's review, is using a 333FSB cpu I am guessing, but no comparison with 266memory.

Wow! I'm sure glad I read this thread. I installed slots 2 & 3. I will run the benches and then reconfigure it and see if there is any difference. Very interesting.

Absolutely no difference at all in Sandra memory test. Another urban myth dispelled.
