nforce (1) video card

I am looking to get a video card for my nforce (original version) mother board (upgrade from on board graphics). It has an APG 2X slot, 512 MB, Athlon 1600, XP (home) OS. I intend to use for MS Flight Simulator 2002 gaming.

2x? Thats it? I would seriously upgrade, spending your money on any graphics card is a waste. Or just get a 9600Pro

I upgraded my nF1 with a Radeon 9100, and it increased speed dramatically, as the IGP was no longer sapping memory bandwidth from the CPU. Signal quality is also infinitely better, and I can play at higher resolutions now.

Ignore Tabb, AGP 4x/8x isn't a big improvement form 2x.

Yeah agree on the AGP 4x front there....anyone who says that AGP 4x/8x or Ultra-ATA 100/133 are necessary at current are mistaken.

But...I thought the Nforce1 boards had AGP 4x slots??....you sure the onboard graphics aren't AGP 2x?

I'm pretty sure you're right. The nForce MBs have 4x AGP slots. I tink the onboard video is 4x APG as well.

Welcome to the AT Forums. I would get either a 9600 Pro or 5600 Ultra if you intend to do any serious gamming with some eye candy.

My 3 year old's computer has an Asus A7N266-VM nForce 1 mobo in it. Manual says it's 4X, I'd imagine the GF2 integrated is also.

I'm running a Ti4200 on it, a big improvement over the GF2.

I disagree with the others on recommendation for vid card though, a 9700 or 5900 is the way to go. I wouldn't spend $150-$200 on a crippled slow card when fast non crippled cards are available for $200-$250 and will last you longer.
