NFL question: how come they don't run more QB options?

they do it all the time in college... but i have yet to see this in the NFL. is it not allowed or something?

Most teams don't like it when their QB gets hit/tackled which is what usually happens in an option.

It's called protecting an investment.

The defenses are much faster in the NFL. The QBs would prone to more hits and I doubt many teams want to take that risk.

Pro defense guys are too good for the option to work. But I think I remember a game where it was used for a play. It worked just because the other team wasn't expecting.

So you mean the Nebraska 1st down, 2nd down, 3rd down and 4th down and long sets wouldn't work in the NFL?

hahaha... true... thats their whole playbook 😛

Defensive players in the NFL are fast enough to cover both the QB and the pitch, so it's not really effective as the basis for the offense. Add in the risk of QB injury and the higher chance of fumble and it's just not worthwhile to run except as an occasional trick play.

most teams like to see their quarterbacks live past the game. There are enough quarterback injuries without increasing option plays

Concussion - im sure you don' t wanna waste your multimillion and in some cases ALL-PRO quaterback for a few running yards.
