NFL MVP - who do ya got?

Who should win the MVP this year?

  • Adrian Peterson

  • Peyton Manning

  • Someone else

Apparently it's going to come down to Adrian Peterson or Peyton Manning.

AD fell just 9 yards shy of the single season rushing record, but 2,097 yards following an ACL tear is an incredible feat nonetheless. He led his team to the playoffs with an incredible late-season push against numerous difficult teams. And he was basically the Vikings' entire offense.

Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning. Multiple neck surgeries after missing a full year of football, playing for a new team... and he finishes the season with an 11-game winning streak, the longest in the NFL this season, to capture the #1 seed. You could tell it took him a few weeks to catch his stride, but now the Broncos look unstoppable.

I admit I'm biased, but I think the award has to go to Peterson. QBs tend to win the award more often than RBs because QBs tend to be the most important player on their team. But Adrian Peterson this year was so far above everyone else in the league. I don't think any playoff team relied as heavily on any one player as the Vikings did on him.

The other ding against Manning, IMO, is his team's schedule. When you're in unquestionably the weakest division in football, it does make things a bit easier. The Chargers, Raiders, and Chiefs combined for 13 wins and 35 losses this year. That's basically 6 free wins. Not to diminish Manning's accomplishments, though. He was still really good this year.

The one argument I won't make is that Peterson should get it because Manning has already gotten the award so many times. That shouldn't factor into the decision. But I do feel that this year, although Manning played well, he wasn't head and shoulders above all other QBs as he often has been in the past.

And if you think someone else should get the award, feel free to say why!

Adrian Peterson all the way. That team would have been total hot garbage without him. Peyton Manning gets offensive player of the year. Andrew Luck or RG3 get rookie of the year.

AP should take it, because even though what Peyton has done is great, Tebow took that team to the playoffs as well while the Vikings went to shit when AP went down. It'd be neat to see the media select both of them, but what AP's done this year has been more impressive.

Wait, isn't there an NL MVP and AL MVP? Or is that only baseball?

Just baseball. The NFL has an MVP award, as well as offensive player of the year, defensive player of the year, offensive and defensive rookie of the year, and comeback player of the year. None of those are separated by conference.

Your poll is biased. No Tom Brady? He only led his team to the third most points EVER.

I suppose he is probably the only realistic choice for the "someone else" option. But I don't think he has much chance of winning the award, which is why he isn't a primary option.

It's weird how there's an MVP and offensive player of the year. Aren't Manning and AP both offensive players? I suppose that's another discussion.

I think Brady, RG3, Russell Wilson, and Luck should also get some MVP love. And let's not forget Aaron Rodgers.

If Manning deserves the MVP, then why not Aaron Rodgers? Similar stats. Got rob a win so their record should have been 12-4. Tougher conference and far tougher division.

So my vote goes to AP. He carried them on his back while even Tebow got Denver into the playoffs.

Both Manning and Peterson had fantastic seasons coming back from horrible injuries, but Manning is nearly a decade older (there is a HUGE difference in recovery times between 20-somethings and 30-somethings), and missed a year of playing. His was a much worse setback than Peterson's, which makes his accomplishments more impressive.

Wilson for RoY. Luck throws too many picks and RG3 missed too many snaps. Nobody even expected Wilson to start at the beginning of the season.

Tossup, which means it goes to Manning since QB is a more difficult position to play.

Yes, because QBs haven't been shattering records for the past decade at all ...

Yet AP falls 9 yards shy of a record that has existed for almost 3 decades after coming back from an injury that used to end careers. To imply that QB is any harder than playing as RB is ignorant.

Only a moron would try to say that RB is just as tough to play as QB. Both of them had spectacular seasons which equated to a tossup in my book, so QB wins. Don't lose your brain in your bias for AD.

AD's accomplishments came down to ability (yards after the first hit were amazing). Peyton's came down to ability and brains, I am biased towards mental aptitude.

Not sure I really agree here. Peterson was 9 months removed from major knee surgery when the season started. It hasn't even been a year since he had the surgery and he put up a season that fell just short of a nearly 30 year old record. For a running back I'm not sure if there is much more damaging of an injury. For him to come back and run as well as he did with as crappy of a QB as he had and to continue to be dominating even after losing Harvin is just incredible.

I thought this picture and the scar were great...

I'm not knocking Manning at all...and I hope he wins a superbowl this year. But AP put a up a year that not enough people appreciate.

My Ranks for MVP would be:

1. Purple Jesus
2. Peyton
3. Brady

For Rookie they would be:

1. Russell Wilson
2. Andrew Luck
3. RG III

That sounds more like an argument for comeback player of the year.

Adrian Peterson missed a month with an LCL injury as a rookie and still won rookie of the year because he was just that good. Still had 1,300 rushing yards and set the single-game rushing record one game that year. Could have had the rookie rushing record had he been healthy for every game.
